Transcript: Gen. Peter Pace on 'FOX News Sunday'
FOXNews.com ^ | 26 December 2005

Posted on 12/25/2005 4:35:47 PM PST by Aussie Dasher

"FOX NEWS SUNDAY" HOST CHRIS WALLACE: On this Christmas morning, we are mindful of the thousands of young men and women in uniform who are serving around the world today. To talk about that and the war in Iraq, we welcome for his first Sunday show interview General Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

And, General, merry Christmas and welcome to "FOX News Sunday".

JOINT CHIEFS OF STAFF CHAIRMAN, GEN. PETER PACE: Thanks very much, Chris. Merry Christmas to you.

WALLACE: Thank you, sir. How hard is it for our troops to wake up in Iraq on this Christmas morning far from home, far from family, and what is the military doing to try to make it seem a little bit more like Christmas?

PACE: Well, I think any time you wake up away from home on a special holiday, it's difficult. But this year especially, our troops have so much to be proud of. You take a look at what they've done: Tsunami relief, relief in Katrina here in the United States, relief in Pakistan, second election for a parliament in Afghanistan, two elections and a referendum on a constitution in Iraq.

When they wake up this Christmas day, and they're away from home, they also can take enormous pride in being part of a really historical year.

I don't know what it is about Chris Wallace, but I just
don't care for his delivery during an interview. He seems
uneasy, antsy, or something. I've not been able to figure
out just what it is.

I've always thought he was a little too liberal, in a US
kind of way.

I've not seen him in action, but I'm happy to take your word for it. How did he get a gig on Fox?

I can't really give you a background on him, he is the son
of Mike Wallace, the antique lib thats been around tooo long.

I think thats how he got his foot in the door. But to be on
Fox, thats a little peculiar to me.

Chris Wallace is pretty good. Compare him to Russert! Also, Chris Wallace has a good sense humor, for what that is worth.

General Peter Pace was great this morning.

I saw the replay this evening with General Pace, and had
to leave the show for awhile. Didn't see the whole interview.
I just can't figure out which way Wallace is going to go.
That's his style I guess, just to keep you interested, but
I'm more of a Britt, or John Gibson kinda guy.

Of course I'm more of a Britt guy.

John Gibson? He's only on cable new because of his coverage of the OJ trial.

Don't want to be critical on Christmas, but Chris Wallace and Britt are the real thing. John Gibson is an OJ relic in my opinion as is Greta.

NEVER FORGET

Gen. PETER PACE personally greeted each of us Veterans of the 1965 Battle of the IA DRANG Valley as we were marching into our 40th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony at the Vietnam Wall in Washington, D.C. on 11/11/2005.

See us SkyTroopers marching in ..in a picture kindly posted on Freeper JLO's Home Page, by hitting ALOHA RONNIE on this post & entering JLO in my Home Page's Search engine.

After his stunning Veterans Day Keynote Address to us at The Vietnam Wall ...I was blessed to have the opportunity to personally thank the General for his protecting us in a new time of war.

"Thank you for leading the way"

...was the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs' quick response.

I liked the generals response as to just keeping the US/coalition troops at the same level as the Iraqi forces continue to build and become more independent.
It is a difficult decision to not take that approach. And many things could be written over the pros and cons of this decision. It is to easy to say very large numbers of combined troops would neccessarily do a better job of busting up the remaining pockets of resistance, and foreign terrorist groups.
The politics are always at play. We are not in country fighting a conventional war. The military has had to do one hell of a lot of adjusting to adapt to this new type of SASO activity. I do hope people can realize their choosen methods are arrived at by taking many pieces of the formula into account. The Iraqi want us out. It is a good move to show them that is our intentions. Take those remaining lies given some of them, that we are an occupying force by design. The more the coalition troops dis-engage into small remote footprints, the more Iraqi troops/police are seen as the protectors. Iraqi cannot with their new constitution have much of a gripe. After all the their troops are there to protect them and get rid of the remaining goon squads.

I like the delivery John has on his show. When he pinch hits
for Tony, I think he gets a little pushy during calls.

I've not watched one full segment of Greta, can't take her.
I'm really glad that Rita Cosby is gone, thats for sure. Her
voice sent chills up my spine, I still remember her fawning
over Dog Chapman when he was in hot pursuit of that guy in
Mexico, (cant remember his name) she was almost orgasmic at
the mention of his name. What a wanker..LOL

Two things I can't understand are first, why anyone thinks that military troops are supposed to be home and second, why, with 2.4 million armed service personnel, we cannot sustain 160,000 in Iraq for as long as necessary.

Clearly General Pace made his point. He seems to be a quite articulate man who shall serve as CJCS most ably.

One only knows by heresay, but he and his father have a distant relationship. He looks and sounds like his dad, and has his dad’s intelligence. But is NOT like him in many ways.
