The Right Man - State of the Union: Few sound bites, many thoughts. (PEGGY NOONAN)

You always hope a State of the Union address will be a sleek and handsome ocean liner cutting through the sea. Often they start that way and then turn, inevitably, into a greasy old barge riding low in the water, weighed down by policy cargo. It blows its horn proudly but the sound is more impressive than the ship; in fact it highlights the ship's inadequacy.

More and more this presidency is feeling like a gift.

This, truly, is a good man. And that is a rare thing.

I agree with the former, not the latter.

" . More and more this presidency is feeling like a gift."

I haven't spoken to one person yet, who wasn't profoundly moved, some to tears,by President Bush's SOU speech. I think historians will be taking many quotes from this speech. I cannot remember one quote or thought from any speech of clinton's.Only the obvious vulgarities he uttered, which are compiled in a paperback book of dirty jokes.

Peggy Noonan has said exactly what I would have said about the Bush Presidency and the SOTU, but far better than I ever could. She's one of our gems -- and why on Earth doesn't Bush have her inside the Administration, performing her poetic miracles for him and his agenda?

.... because he has her right where he needs her, in the public's eye! Did you catch her Tuesday night on Fox News? There she was, opposite Allan Colmes, calmly and cooly assessing the president's speech. And Allan was bobbing his head up and down, in surprising agreement.

The president has EXCELLENT speech writers, as exemplified by the very speech he delivered to us on Tuesday!

Yep. Like a rinse and a peppermint after a nasty session of chain-vomiting. And particularly a "gift" since the previous eight years were entirely our collective fault, a reflection of the self-inflicted collapse of American spirituality, morality, and character.
