Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld responded yesterday to anonymous criticism that he is rude to subordinates by saying he is in charge at the Pentagon.

"The Constitution calls for civilian control of this department," Mr. Rumsfeld said at a Pentagon press conference. "And I'm a civilian."

Awwww, someone's feelings got hurt over submitting poorly written reports? Too bad, I'll bet Rumsfeld is a hard boss. It is the times though, like he said, we need to get things right.

Rumsfeld is a very competent gasbag. Rummy should try to lose some of his public gas.

I love his "style"....wish we had more men like him. A former Marine pilot (I know...no former Marines..lol), stellar private and public administrative career and still kicking ass at 70....damn he looks like the real deal to me.

So, doing a job properly is a bad thing? Are they comparing his style to that of a previous administration? What if he was a f-up? Sheesh!

Rumsfeld rules!!!!!!!!!! No question his press briefings are the hottest thing on daytime television. (Has anyone else come to the same conclusion that I have - that Rumsfeld sounds an awful lot like Henry Fonda? Just close your eyes and listen to him.)

And who would you propose to take his place, pray tell? Thank God Bush was a "wartime consigliere" in the SecDef post these days!

Obviously, "BlackHead" pissed some people off in the administration.

What he has been saying, even if he is a civilian, was simply wrong. He knows better.

Mr. Rumsfeld displays an aggressive management style, a trait that endears him to the rank and file but offends some who come into regular contact with him. He has chastised officials at briefings for not writing or speaking in what he considers clear English.

So he will NOT accept obfuscese. Common sense returns to the Pentagon.

Rumsfield's style reminds me of a select few of my former commanding officers.

If I had information that I thought they needed to have, but were not receiving, all that was required was a meeting of the eyes and a slightly raised eyebrow to silently request a command level private meeting.

Good military leaders do not encourage insubordination, they encourage excellance. If sidesteps around the chaff of political appointees are required, so be it.

The DOD is not tasked with the mission of diplomacy.Rumsfield and Powell have different priorities and missions, but I dare anyone to question their abiliity to lead effectively.

I can easily envision hundreds of NCOICs looking Rummy straight in the eye and raising an eyebrow.I would bet a years pay that he knows more about the actual day to day military situation in various commands than the titular commanders of same.

"As part of transformation, the defense chief is looking for ways to reduce headquarters staff and may consolidate jobs in the Joint Staff and his office."

This is the real problem, not to mention Sec. Rumsfield should demand excellance and superior work; he will clean out the useless and inept(?sp) but the crybaby librals will holler about damage to their self esteem... Oh no, don't scold or site an error, they might just breakdown! And who in the hell gave this memo to the press? Hope he or she is history! ;)

"We have done so much in the last two years," Mr. Rumsfeld said. "And it doesn't happen by standing around with your finger in your ear hoping everyone thinks that that's nice."

BUMP!!!
