June 9, 2002 -- THE generals warn of dire consequences if Iraq is attacked, especially from Kuwait.

Meanwhile, a cautious military buildup starts in the Persian Gulf. Countries that had said they would never betray their Arab brother start opening up their ports, airfields and military bases to American forces.

LOL. If this comes to pass, I wonder if Rush will eat crow at his undignified hissy fit a few weeks ago when Bush said to some reporter "there are no war plans (re: Iraq) on my desk.

If there's one thing I've learned about George W. Bush, it is to withhold comment and opinion and wait to see what the final course of action is. I never could believe that Bush, by threatening Iraq with war, would then set himself up for international ridicule by not following through.

I think John Ringo is correct. The ball is still a live one and waiting for Bush to pick it up and run with it.

Ping. I am not convinced by the argument in this article, I think that direct action against Iraq is unlikely. I think that the war-talk from Bush/Blair is just rhetoric. Can't tell though.

I don't think it's just rhetoric. The Bushes made that mistake once...

"Read my lips, no new taxes..."

If it's just vacuous bombastic rhetoric, Hillary will be president in 2004.

Me for President!
God save us.

This MAY be one of the reasons why we will not attack Iraq anytime soon.... at least not like we did in the early nineties.

Dave Eberhart, NewsMax.com

Friday, Jan. 11, 2002

Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz’s recent declaration that Iraq is on the back burner of the War Against Terrorism may have less to do with recalcitrant allies, a limited U.N. mandate, or a politically correct shift from targeting Muslims and Arabs - and more to do with the Pentagon’s crippling shortage of conventionally armed cruise missiles. The Department of Defense in its $1 billion cruise missile budget authority for FY 2001 and FY 2002 was clear about the crisis: "The United States has a shortage of conventionally armed, air-launched cruise missiles; specifically, it has about 60 of these missiles but needs about 1,000.” During the critical early days of any offensive into Iraq, cruise missiles would be the vanguard to attack systems and tactical aircraft; deny forward movement of enemy forces; neutralize enemy operations; suppress enemy air defenses; attack electrical generating facilities, command and control nodes, and weapons assembly/storage facilities. Currently, however, according to the Pentagon budget document, the Air Force is scrambling and improvising when it comes to procuring these key tools of warfare – relying on converting the nuclear payloads of aging Air Launched Cruise Missiles (ALCMs) to conventional missiles (CALCMs).

In My Humble ........ok, not so humble opinion...the only thing the Arab world will understand is the bright light and subsequent devistation that comes from a few atoms crashing into each other.

We certainly do need some time to restock, but I hope that's what is going on right now. I'm really looking forward to a nice working vacation on the Persian Gulf.
