House Majority Leader Dick Armey released an analysis today of Democrat budget plans to increase taxes for more government spending.
During last week's Budget Committee markup, Democrats offered 17 amendments to the proposed budget. Taken together, the amendments totaled $205 billion in new spending and $175 billion in new taxes over five years.
"In this budget debate, Democrats have offered nothing but excuses and half-baked schemes," said Armey. "Now it appears they have a secret plan that taxes Americans, spends billions more on government programs, without doing anything to protect and strengthen Social Security. They don't even belong in this debate."
From FY 1970-1995, the federal budget ran deficits every year. Since the last surplus was recorded in 1969, the Democratic majority produced budget deficits totaling $3.3 trillion. In contrast, since Republicans took control, the federal budget ran a net surplus of $429 billion.
"When it comes to fiscal discipline, Democrats have no credibility," said Armey. "Republican control balanced the books while helping families and individuals balance their own. This year's budget maintains fiscal responsibility with a blueprint for future surpluses while funding a nation at war."

Send it back Mr. Armey, it's not your money.
I see little difference in collecting confiscating more than needed and spending more than needed.....
If the "surplus" wasn't spent, where is it?
Its called correct budgeting and a tax cut which you spent last fall. Where have you been for 9 years?
I hope You forgot the < /sarcasm > tag.
The Bush administration is poised to complete the biggest increase in government spending since the 1960s' "Great Society," the result of conducting the war on terrorism while substantially boosting the education and transportation budgets, according to a detailed analysis of government spending patterns.
Big-budget Bush: President shows no interest in curbing spending
Let's not forget the new "Homeland Security" bureaucracy with their color coded warnings without directions on what they mean to us that has already doubled it's funding in less than 8 months.
Time will tell about tax cuts or if the Democrats get their wish.
I of course should be grateful for all the new non-defense government spending.
