The 4300 block of Canal Street is home to a lawyer's office, a Presbyterian church, an upscale guest house and, until recently, in one of the stately Victorian houses typical of the neighborhood, an old-fashioned brothel, federal authorities said.

In a 14-count indictment released Tuesday, the U.S. attorney's office alleges that Jeanette Maier, 43, was the "madam" of the bustling Mid-City brothel and accused her of employing three generations of her family in the business. Maier's mother, Tommie Taylor, 62, allegedly was the day-to-day manager of the operation, and Maier's daughter, Monica Montemayor, 25, allegedly worked there as a prostitute.

... the FBI doesn't know what a classic paper chase or a first degree kidnapping is, and they don't care about a Mafia princess running a phony missing children's charity, but they have lots of time to bust prostitutes.

Waste of time and money on the FBI's part. They really need to bring back Storyville. :-)

It never ceased to amaze me, BTW, how the neighborhoods change when driving up Canal Street, from semi-suburban at the Lake to hideous Urban decay only a few miles south.

When I lived in New Orleans I had a friend who had lived there all of his life. He told me that it wasn't until he was 30 years old that he found out that it was the city that was supposed to pay the cops.

Wow, your post was so funny, I almost let it stand on its own outrageousness.

I suppose that letting people take care of their own lives and own medical problems is an issue for those of you who do not believe in freedom. For the rest of us,well, its not a big deal. Sorry you don't believe in liberty, but hey, that's your problem.
