U.S. EXAMINES ARROW FOR FUTURE DEPLOYMENT

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The United States appears to have shelved opposition to emergency deployment of the Arrow missile defense system developed jointly with Israel.

U.S. officials said the Defense Department and its Missile Defense Agency envision deployment of the Arrow-2 interceptor in case the U.S. military is left without a defense against medium-range missiles. A U.S. program, the Theater High Altitude Area Defense system, has been plagued by delays.

The Arrow deployment could take place in wake of an agreement by Jerusalem and Washington for the production of the interceptors in the United States. Officials said the Pentagon has not ruled out the purchase of such missiles.

In a Senate subcommittee on strategic forces hearing last week, Missile Defense Agency director Lt. Gen. Ronald Kadish said the Arrow could serve to augment the U.S. PAC-3 missile defense system. The PAC-3 is meant to provide area defense against ballistic missiles in their last stage of flight.

OUTSTANDING! There should be an Arrow system outside every American coastal city YESTERDAY! Clintoon shot down all (as in ALL) missile research in his 8 years leaving America defenseless. The Joint system developed with Israel is the best in the world! It has twice the range of the patriot II and is around 3 times as fast!

While they are at it, they should be obtaining the 90 mile range launch and leave missile the Israeli's developed for the F16. Lot farther range than any American Missile that will mount on that frame. The sparrow is such a monster that you have to mount it on an F15 just to get it off the ground.

How about we trade F16's for them. Buck for buck. No more subsidys, just good partnership. Both our industries could use the boost. Of course we need a lot more missiles than Israel needs F16's. We could (gasp) buy them.

While we are at it we should buy the x/y axis thrust vector nozzles for the F16's the Israeli's invented too, and the xxxxxxxx. (/censoring)

Nonsense. Even the F-16s (Air National Guard) carried the Sparrow since 1989. A total of 270 F-16s were modified to carry Sparrow in US service.

Image of F-16 carrying Sparrow:

Image of F-16 carrying the AMRAAM:

The even bigger missile on this aircraft is a HARM which is even larger than either Sparrow/AMRAAM.
