Subject: New Words

Each year the Washington Post's Style Invitational asks readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter and then supply a new definition. Here are the 2001 winners:

Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with.

Reintarnation: Coming back to life as a hillbilly.

Foreploy: Any misrepresentation about yourself for the purpose of getting laid (familiar to all men).

Giraffiti: Vandalism spray-painted very, very high.

Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it.

Inoculatte: To take coffee intravenously when you are running late.

Hipatitis: Terminal coolness.

Osteopornosis: A degenerate disease. (this one got extra credit)

Karmageddon: It's like, when everybody is sending off all these really bad vibes, right? And then, like, the Earth explodes and it's like, a serious bummer.

Glibido: All talk and no action.

Dopeler Effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.

And, the pick of the literature:

Ignoranus: A person who's both stupid and an a**hole.

Pathetic. This from the nation's premiere newspaper (so called.) Competing with the likes of PARADE magazine now, huh? Don't tell me to lighten up now, trivia is trivia, trash is trash, sorry. I like my WEEKLY WORLD NEWS just fine, thank you. And by the way, this little contest says much about the level of the Washing Compost readership. Oh yes, not funny, Marge!

Not in any dictionary I've got. But then I don't keep pidgin or Ebonics dictionaries. Back to your cave Einstein!

Here are some you'll never see in the Washington Compost:

Progrossive: a fat and ugly liberal.

Socialost: A liberal that cannot , even in theory, ever be convinced of the error of their ways.

Dimocrat: A liberal who cannot lie, cheat , and steal effectively.

Dinocrat: A liberal who cannot change his old lies even after they have been throughly discredited by the public at large.
