<description>Although New Haven&#x26;#x27;s firefighters deservedly won in the Supreme Court, it is deeply depressing that they won narrowly -- 5 to 4. <title>Jacksonville firefighters win discrimination lawsuit</title>
<link>https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1591574/posts</link>
<description>&#x26;#x3C;p&#x26;#x3E;Associated Press JACKSONVILLE -- Four white fire lieutenants were not promoted by Jacksonville&#x26;#x27;s black former fire chief because of their race, a jury ruled.&#x26;#x3C;/p&#x26;#x3E;

&#x26;#x3C;p&#x26;#x3E;The lawsuit focused on the denied promotions of Lts. Michael Price, George Williams, Mike Perryman and Nolen Sauls, who has since died. On Friday, the jury awarded them back pay, finding that race was the motivating factor in former Fire and Rescue Chief Ray Alfred&#x26;#x27;s decision not to create rescue captain positions even though they were next in line for promotion in 1999.&#x26;#x3C;/p&#x26;#x3E;
