Though the USNS Mercy will return to its home port in San Diego, medical personnel from the ship will stay in the L.A. area, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services said Thursday. A man was arrested by federal authorities Wednesday morning in Los Angeles after he was detained Tuesday by local police for allegedly driving a train locomotive at full speed and derailing it by ramming it through barriers about 250 yards from where the USNS Mercy is docked for relief of hospitals in the COVID-19 Chinese coronavirus crisis. The man was reportedly holding a lit flare in the train’s cabin. On Saturday, President Trump visited Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia to send off the USNS Comfort as the hospital ship departs for New York City. The National Park Service says tours on the USS Arizona Memorial are suspended after a vessel struck and damaged the memorial's dock. Spokeswoman Abby Wines said Wednesday that boats are taking visitors to a spot near the memorial where they may view it from a distance, but visitors are not being taken on it.
