There’s an interesting post up at The Weekly Standard about President Obama’s odd (to say the least) behavior. The theory is that he’s trying to rev up his base so the Democrats avoid electoral disaster in November. [...] I don’t know. That could be part of it. But I think there’s more to it. He’s probably well aware that his party could lose the majority in Congress, so he’s in a hurry to fundamentally transform America while the window’s still open. He’s not your run of the mill politician who’s interested only in re-election. He’s a man on a mission,...

I posted this to my blog a while ago now (before I joined up here), but watching the way Obama has been acting lately, especially with that ridiculous marathon response he gave to a simple question of over-taxation I wanted to share it here I'm not sure why the text is in light brown...maybe he's electing to not use his "negro dialect." Perhaps we were all a little quick to judge Harry Reid. The Looking Spoon is a conservative humor/satire/art/commentary blog, visit www.thelookingspoon.com to see more posts!

We could have taken our Chevy to McCain’s Auto Repair. The gruff, veteran mechanic might not have gotten to all the items on our “to-do” list. But he would have made minor adjustments, so that our car ran more smoothly. Instead, we took it to Smiling Barack’s Used Cars, where the smooth-talking salesman persuaded us to trade in our Chevy for a Yugo. The Yugo rarely runs at all, as Europeans could have told us after decades of experience. But it was made according to socialist principles, so we will be told not to complain.

WASHINGTON — If Illinois Sen. Barack Obama can replicate what he did in South Carolina, he could be on the verge of seizing control of the Democratic nomination and perhaps changing American politics. In Iowa, he forged a new coalition of young voters, newcomers to politics, and change-hungry Americans surging to the polls in record-shattering numbers. Adding a new element, he rolled up a huge majority among African Americans. This does not mean he seized the nomination, or even the title of front-runner. The old politics dies hard. He lost close contests in New Hampshire and Nevada. And Hillary Clinton...

SIERRA VISTA — This is no ordinary green thumb project. The Sierra Vista Garden Club has an ambitious goal of transforming the Southern Arizona Veterans’ Cemetery with drought-tolerant plants and trees — not only to improve the look, but honor veterans. The club wants to keep the state-run 147-acre burial ground as a place of dignity and honor, said Terri Nuti, the cemetery administrator. “Everybody is very enthusiastic about this,” said Janet Brady, club president. “This has sort of become my baby.” Nuti said the cemetery is so grateful to the garden club, because it frees up the small staff...

ELLINGTON FIELD, Texas -- The Texas Air National Guard stood up Task Force Compassion here to provide Hurricane Rita evacuees medical support and to evacuate non-critical patients from overburdened local hospitals. Task force Airmen and Soldiers began setting up a 10-bed medical treatment facility overnight in Ellington’s abandoned base exchange and opened for business Sept. 26. The treatment facility has 47 medics from the 147th Medical Group here, the 149th MG at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, the 136th MG at Naval Air Station-Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth and the Army National Guard Support Medical Battalion in San Antonio. “If...

Anti-Semitism may seem to be a static, unchanging phenomenon but in fact the obsessive hatred of Jews has a history that goes back millennia and continues to evolve.Developments since World War II and the Holocaust have been especially fast-paced and portentous. Here are four of the most significant shifts: From right to left: For centuries, anti-Semitism was the hallmark of the right and merely episodic on the left. To take the ultimate examples of these trends, Stalin's Judeophobia was peripheral to his monstrous project, but Hitler's was central to his. Even a decade ago, this pattern still basically held true....

Che Guevara is more than just a sleazy tee shirt on an aging leftwinger's food-dribbled chest. Che Guevara is a live emblem of hemispheric terror, kidnapping and murder. And not just in the 1960s but happening right now. Today! The news, still in only Spanish, has just come out this afternoon. Colombia's government just released a tape proving, without a shadow of a doubt, that filthy Marxist narcoterrorist FARC and ELN guerrillas are operating a string of working terrorist camps inside Venezuela. And not just inside Venezuela in the way we thought they were, as Hugo Chavez-hosted recreational guerrilla spas,...

He's won. Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has succeeded in cutting taxes. In Italy. The captain of his nation's ship, who had gripped the helm and vowed to hurl his entire balking government over the side if they refused to stand with him, took a tremendous risk. But last night, the storm ebbed and Berlusconi sailed to victory. Tax cuts, $8.6 billion, are coming at last to high-tax Italy, a country whose previous governments had driven 25% of its economy underground, and much more underwater, with Italy's crushing 43% of GNP tax burden. This portends well for tax-cutting in the...

CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) - President Bush and top military leaders are gathering at his ranch Friday to talk over their efforts to make the U.S. military more mobile and responsive. Vice President Dick Cheney arrived in Texas on Thursday, ahead of the Friday meeting with Bush, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and other military leaders, including Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. They plan to discuss Rumsfeld's plans to transform the military into a sophisticated, lighter force able to mobilize quickly in response to crises around the world. "They will be talking about the administration's commitment...
