Hey, so I drive myself crazy watching cams all over the world, particularly Times Square. The way the people are situated and the traffic seems odd. There a quite a bit more people than the last several months and that is exciting but, something about it is off. There is only one cop car, when there had been 6-8 https://www.earthcam.com/usa/newyork/timessquare/?cam=tstwo_hd

Hilton will be closing its Times Square location in Manhattan in October due to fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic, the hotel said in a state filing earlier this week. The filing with the New York State Department of Labor said the corporation's 42nd Street location would begin closing at the start of next month. "Furloughs, which began on 3/16/2020, will become permanent effective 10/1/2020 through 10/14/2020 due to the permanent closing of the hotel," the corporation said. "A total of 200 employees will be impacted." The company cited "unforeseeable business circumstances prompted by COVID-19." The coronavirus pandemic has sharply affected...

For years, Bryant Park Grill & Cafe in Midtown Manhattan has been one of the country’s top-grossing restaurants, the star property in Ark Restaurants’ portfolio of 20 restaurants across the United States. But what propelled it to the top has vanished. The tourists are gone, the office towers surrounding it are largely empty and the restaurant’s 1,000-seat dining room is closed. Instead, dinner is cooked and served on its patio, and the scaled-down restaurant brings in about $12,000 a day — an 85 percent plunge in revenue, its chief executive said. Five months into the pandemic, the drastic turn of...

In the heart of Manhattan, national chains including J.C. Penney, Kate Spade, Subway and Le Pain Quotidien have shuttered branches for good. Many other large brands, like Victoria’s Secret and the Gap, have kept their high-profile locations closed in Manhattan, while reopening in other states. Michael Weinstein, the chief executive of Ark Restaurants, said he will never open another restaurant in New York. Of Ark Restaurants’ five Manhattan restaurants, only two have reopened, while its properties in Florida — where the virus is far worse — have expanded outdoor seating with tents and tables into their parking lots, serving almost...

A New Jersey man is accused of being a secret Hezbollah operative in the United States for more than a decade, surveilling potential attack sites in New York City, Boston and Washington, prosecutors said Thursday. Alexei Saab, 42, from Morristown, was charged under a nine-count indictment in connection with a range of alleged terror activities. They included providing material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization (FTO) and receiving military-style training from that group, the Justice Department said. “Even though Saab was a naturalized American citizen, his true allegiance was to Hezbollah, the terrorist organization responsible for decades of terrorist...

Gov. Cuomo said the panic that erupted in Times Square after a backfiring motorcycle mistaken for gunshots sent people fleeing from the area shows just how “terrified” the nation is in the wake of the mass shootings over the weekend. SEE ALSO Panic in Times Square after motorcycle backfire mistaken for gunshots ”That’s where we are. You hear a noise, you run. That’s the state of this nation. We’re petrified,” he said Wednesday during an interview on WCBS 880 radio. The governor also railed about the “impotence of government” for its failure to respond with any substantial gun control legislation,...

That's why when Krispy Kreme opens a location in New York's Times Square early next year, it will feature the world's largest Hot Light. That won't be the only unique component of the 24-hour, 4,500-square-foot retail space, which will sit at the corner of Broadway and 48th Street. The location's "doughnut theater experience" will showcase the doughnut making process from end-to-end, from the mixing of ingredients to running the tasty treats through a glaze "waterfall." Oh, and if you get hungry and want to eat one (or a box?) of them, there will be stadium-style seating in the shop so...

No information was released about the suspect’s age, nationality or place of residence but he was scheduled to appear in court in Brooklyn on Friday, WCBS-TV in New York City reported.

Videos at link. (Photo by William Chen, via Facebook) Last night hundreds of protesters gathered in Times Square in New York City to call for the removal of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) from the powerful House Foreign Affairs Committee. The protest was organized by conservative activist Joe Diamond, whose campaign to raise funds for a Times Square billboard was pulled by Facebook soon after they’d raised adequate funds. The Jerusalem Post covered the event: Following the Minnesotan congresswoman’s highly-publicized allegations of antisemitism and statement downplaying the 9/11 terrorist attacks, New York native and activist Joe Diamond organized a rally and...

Write it down! On May 4th 2019, a near perfect 70 degree afternoon, in the middle of Times Square, in New York City, from three sound stages blasting thousands of decibels into the surrounding neighborhoods, the final speaker of the day said that, “Soon... Abortion will become... unthinkable!” The statement came after a 90 minute program that had been slated as a “public celebration of life.” Not content to believe the organizers, protestors attempted to disrupt the proceedings. But those protests, which began with profane chants, obscene signs, and thundering drums, ended with nary a whimper, and dispersed far more...

After New York publicly celebrated its most expansive abortion bill, allowing abortion up to the point of birth in many cases and performed by non-doctors, a conservative Christian group launched a nationwide pro-life campaign that will culminate with an event in New York City to show that "every life is made in the image of God." Focus on the Family's 12-week campaign, dubbed "See Life Clearly," leads up to a May 4 event called "Alive From New York" in the heart of Times Square. “We’re looking to fill Times Square with pro-life Americans, and it will feature live music, compelling...

A Manhattan legislator said Monday that she “appreciates” the vandal who defaced a Florida statue honoring the sailor kissing a female nurse in Times Square to mark the end of World War II because it was a “forced” smooch. “I appreciate someone recognizing that a random man grabbing a random woman is completely inappropriate,” City Councilwoman Helen Rosenthal, who chairs the Committee on Women, told The Post after a hearing on adding more monuments in the city honoring women and minorities.

The ecstatic sailor shown kissing a woman in Times Square celebrating the end of World War II died Sunday. George Mendonsa was 95. In response to New York's new abortion law, which effectively allows unlimited abortion until birth, Focus on the Family launched the largest pro-life effort in the organization's history. The 12-week campaign, dubbed SEE LIFE CLEARLY, will culminate in a May 4 event in Times Square, "Alive from New York," where live 4-D ultrasounds will be broadcast on a jumbotron. "We’re looking to fill Times Square with pro-life Americans, and it will feature live music, compelling and inspirational speakers, and best of all, live 4-D ultrasounds broadcast on a massive digital marquee in Times Square, powerfully showing the world that a...

I've just heard it announced that one of the "highlights" of the New Year's Eve celebration in NYC's Times Square will be a performance of John Lennon's "Imagine," this time by one Bebe Rexha. I'll admit to being "culturally deprived"; I've never heard of that person. And it turns out that "Imagine" has been performed at other Times Square New Year's Eve celebrations since 2005 (2012 and 2016, for example, by other performers of whom I'd never heard), with videos of the crowds enthusiastically waving their arms and singing along. Now, I'm a big fan of The Beatles, and I happen...
