Criterion Collection President Peter Becker knew FilmStruck’s death was imminent, weeks in advance of news reports late last October. And long before industry luminaries ranging from Martin Scorsese to Bill Hader sent up flares to save the Turner Classic Movies streaming platform, Becker and his peers had a contingency plan to save FilmStruck’s Criterion Channel.

Apple announced new streaming services on Monday including Apple TV Channels and Apple TV+. Apple TV Channels includes content from HBO, Showtime, Starz, Epix and more. Apple TV+ is a new streaming TV service that will feature original content created by Apple.

Sinclair Broadcast Group is working on a streaming news service that could launch later this year, BuzzFeed News reported Wednesday. The company has submitted a trademark application for a free streaming app, called STIRR, BuzzFeed reported. Sources familiar with the project told the news outlet that the app would offer local and national news, as well as other on-demand programming. A spokesperson for Sinclair declined to comment to BuzzFeed. The app would represent the latest effort from Sinclair to expand its reach.
