I guess IÂ’m not that surprised: some folks are using some underhanded push-polling to promote Huckabee. A newly-formed group claiming to support Mike Huckabee hit the phones of Iowa Republicans tonight with an automated push-poll attacking HuckabeeÂ’s GOP opponents and praising the former Arkansas governor. Officials representing the Iowa campaigns of Fred Thompson, John McCain and Rudy Giuliani all said that their supporters contacted them to complain about the calls. A spokesman for RomneyÂ’s campaign said they had gotten reports of calls, but did not know of anything negative being said about their candidate. It appears this group might be...

Definition: Push Poll: "A push poll is a political campaign technique in which an individual or organization attempts to influence or alter the view of respondents under the guise of conducting a poll. Push polls are generally viewed as a form of negative campaigning. The term is also sometimes used incorrectly to refer to legitimate polls which test political messages, some of which may be negative. Push polling has been condemned by the American Association of Political Consultants."Melissa Russo, political reporter for NBC's NYC affiliate WNBC, recently followed Rudy Giuliani up to New Hampshire. In her report on this morning's...
  • A simple Theory: How did the Dems Lose It so completely?

It's clear to Freepers that the success of the Iraqi elections has totally confounded the Left and the MSM. I won't re-hash the idiotic statements of Dean, Kerry, Pelosi -- the real question is, how could they, as seasoned political pros, have been so politically stupid? I think the answer is simple. The Dems were willing to run off the cliff because they became convinced that the polling numbers showed that Bush was finally vulnerable. This was a mistake for so many reasons: 1) the polling numbers themselves was a shimera, the result of virtual push-polling by the MSM, who...

A majority of Republican voters favor an immigration plan that would allow illegal immigrants to apply for temporary work visas and have a path to permanent residency, a poll released Monday found. The poll suggests that the party's rank-and-file are not divided on immigration the way their leaders in Congress are, said GOP pollster Ed Goeas, president of The Tarrance Group, which conducted the survey. "Republican voters are, in fact, not split on this," he said. "It is clear that (they) strongly favor a comprehensive immigration reform plan that combines the stick of tighter borders and tougher enforcement with the...

WASHINGTON -- By a margin of almost 2-to-1, likely Florida voters feel strongly that Congress and President Bush should have stayed out of the battle over Terri Schiavo's fate, according to a new poll conducted this week for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel and Florida Times-Union.

Zogby has been doing a fair amount of polling over the Internet. This mornings poll asks the usual questions for presidential polling and then throws in this gem: "Who would you more likely vote for president - the Tin Man who is all brains and no heart or the Scarecrow who is heart and no brain?" Which candidate is which.

BLOOMINGTON -- Political polls are "phony" and should not just be disregarded, but banned, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Alan Keyes argued Monday. "They (polls) are manipulative and degrading and damaging to our political system, and they should not be allowed when it comes to the actual time frame in which people are making up their minds," Keyes said during a meeting with The Pantagraph's editorial board. His comments came in response to questions about a Pantagraph/St. Louis Post-Dispatch poll published Monday showing him trailing Democrat Barack Obama 68 percent to 23 percent. The survey, released 43 days before the election,...

PASADENA, Md., Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- "We are very pleased that the Constitution Party presidential ticket is now being included in Zogby's presidential polling," stated Michael A. Peroutka, Constitution Party presidential nominee. "Zogby should be commended for conducting their polls in such a fair and honest fashion. It only makes sense to include all the presidential candidates who have the ballot access to potentially win this race if you want an accurate snapshot of the American electorate's voting intentions." The latest Zogby poll to include Peroutka-Baldwin 2004 is web-based, and allows those who have taken advantage of their free online...

DEAN: DO AS I DO, NOT AS I SAY! Flush With Cash, Dean Abandons Commitment To Public Financing ________________________________________________________ “‘Before he was so flush with cash, Howard Dean was an ardent and passionate supporter of the matching-fund system,’ said Jim Jordan, manager of Kerry’s campaign. ‘Now that his situation has changed, of course, so have his views on that system. More flip-flops, more politics of convenience, more politics as usual.’” (Mark Z. Barabak, “Dean Taking Poll On Funding Question,” Los Angeles Times, 11/5/03) WAS SO COMMITTED TO PUBLIC FINANCING, WARNED OTHER DEMS NOT TO BACK OUT March ‘03: Let...
