On Thursday, Ohio’s state health director, who had armed protesters come to her house, resigned. The health officer for Orange County, California, quit Monday after weeks of criticism and personal threats from residents and other public officials over an order requiring face coverings in public. As the pressure and scrutiny rise, many more health officials have chosen to leave or been pushed out of their jobs. A review by KHN and The Associated Press finds at least 27 state and local health leaders have resigned, retired or been fired since April across 13 states. From North Carolina to California, they...

Cincinnati Reds star Joey Votto has done some soul-searching in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd in police custody, and he didn’t like what he saw in himself when first told of the video. For that, Votto blamed his privilege and pledged to do better in an op-ed titled “My awakening” published by the Cincinnati Enquirer on Sunday.

I have been watching the Worldometer numbers and have noticed that they are inflating the death numbers for Ohio. For example, Today June 14th the official numbers from Ohio are +3 deaths for total of 2557. But Worldometer has it at +8 for total of 2562. If they are inflating numbers for Ohio, I wonder how many other states they are inflating as well. I would like to have a site I can go to to get accurate numbers. I like how with the Worldometer site you can compare todays numbers with yesterdays on a state by state basis. But...

The legislation would require the Ohio Department of Health, as well as local health boards, hospitals and coroners to report every coronavirus test given, and mandate that ODH release that information, as well as the test results, in the form of a chart or table broken down by ZIP code, as well as infection rates for nursing homes, hospitals and prisons. It would also require the state health department, when it releases COVID-19 modeling projections, to provide supporting information and documents, as well as a margin of error. Supporters of the measure said that the Ohio Department of Health’s presentation...

During a hearing in the Ohio statehouse on Tuesday, Republican state Senator Steve Huffman asked if "the colored population" is hit harder by the coronavirus because "they do not wash their hands as well as other groups." Huffman, who is a physician, raised the question during a health committee hearing on whether to declare racism a public health crisis. "My point is, I understand African Americans have a higher incidence of chronic conditions and it makes them more susceptible to death from COVID," Huffman said. "But why it doesn't make them more susceptible to just get COVID? Could it just...

Harold Thomas of Indian Hill, Ohio, said he has donated millions to services in his community and recently added hundreds of thousands more to local police departments. The 87-year-old retired businessman told the Cincinnati Enquirer that he has donated tens of millions of dollars to local hospitals, colleges, municipal public-safety departments, and others because “charity begins at home.” To that end, he has recently boosted police funding in the nearby cities of Indian Hill, Madeira, and Montgomery by a cool $250,000 each. My reason was I knew Indian Hill needed new state-of-the-art radio equipment for each of their officers to...

Columbus, Ohio – Ohio Department of Health Director Amy Acton resigned suddenly today, citing inability to cope with the overload of work the job required. Acton will reportedly stay on as Gov. Mike DeWine’s “Chief Health Advisor.” This came a week after Operation Rescue called for her resignation after publishing an exposé that included information on her Ohio medical license application that indicated she had been treated for mental illness and/or addiction issues at some point in the past. That exposé also included audio clips from Operation Rescue’s interview with Donna Arthur, Acton’s estranged mother. Arthur claimed that her daughter...

Call for resignation or removal It is unknown how Gov. DeWine came to the decision to nominate Acton, but if he thought he was getting a Department of Health Director without an abortion agenda, it now appears he was wrong. “Operation Rescue calls on Amy Acton to resign, and if she will not do that, we call on Gov. Mike DeWine to fire her and appoint a new director who will not surreptitiously defy the laws of Ohio and rulings of the courts to keep dangerous abortion facilities open,” said Newman.

Attorney General Dave Yost on Thursday asked an Eastern Ohio court to dismiss a criminal charge against diner owners who re-opened in early May, before the state’s coronavirus ban on sit-down dining was lifted. Dwight and Vicki Brearley reopened their National Road Diner near Cambridge to customers on May 6, even though the DeWine administration didn’t lift its order prohibiting inside dining until May 21. After they ignored warnings, Guernsey County Health Commissioner Dr. Edward Colby charged the couple with one count of failure to prevent a threat to the public during a pandemic, epidemic or bioterrorism event, a second-degree...

Dr. Amy Acton has resigned as Ohio’s health director, Gov. Mike DeWine said Thursday, capping a contentious few months as the target of frustrations during the coronavirus pandemic that included gun-carrying critics showing up at her home. Acton was most recently sued by organizers of music festivals and restaurant owners as the slow reopening unfolded. “I really want to say most of all to Ohioans: Ohioans, you have saved lives. You’ve done this,” she said at a news briefing. Acton, who called her time as the state health director an “honor of a lifetime,” faced House Republicans seeking to restrict...

CINCINNATI — University of Cincinnati head baseball coach Scott Googins said Tuesday afternoon he supports the players who've started a petition to change the name of Marge Schott Stadium. Googins said the Bearcats have discussed the petition as a team. "To me, it's a great ballpark and we're very lucky to have it," Googins said when asked if the name should be changed. "To me, it should be a positive place. I want to make sure when people talk about our stadium that it's a positive because it should be."

At one point, police lined up and blocked Brecksville Road near the city’s new police station. Demonstrators marched to within inches of officers. They yelled profanities at police, insulted them and made obscene gestures. None of them would identify themselves to cleveland.com. Police didn’t move, and remained silent for the most part. Some demonstrators said certain officers were smiling at them. “Why are you smiling?” one demonstrator asked police. “You want to say something? Say it.” Another demonstrator, staring down officers, said a certain percentage of police in general are wife-beaters. He said he was trying to figure out which...

Cleveland's mayor left a sour taste in the mouth's of many locals who tuned in to a discussion he had about the city ... referring to The Land as "The World's Butthole." Mayor Frank Jackson was talking about his fair city and its charms on Wednesday -- but during the Facebook chat, he said yes, he's aware that many perceive Cleveland as Earth's anus ... so to speak. He very quickly made it clear, though, that HE doesn't actually believe that to be the case. Check it out ... Frank says perception isn't always reality, and if you closely examine...

Defense Secretary Mark Esper on Friday ordered National Guard troops in Washington, DC, to disarm and wear soft caps instead of helmets, an official told Breitbart News on Friday afternoon. The official said the president told Attorney General Bill Barr that he wanted the National Guard to be armed so that they could protect themselves from rioters and looters coming in to the city, but Esper on his own told the D.C. National Guard leadership to take the weapons of National Guardsmen who were coming in from other states.“He’s not really on board with what the president is trying to do,”...
