NEW ROADS - Just before noon, on Christmas Eve, police from New Roads arrested Kyandrea Thomas. Thomas is accused of giving birth in a Walmart bathroom, then dumping her newborn baby in a bathroom trash can before leaving the store. Thomas was arrested after she checked herself in to Lane Memorial Hospital, in Zachary. Around 8:00 p.m., New Roads Police and District 5 firefighters responded to reports of an unresponsive baby left in the Walmart bathroom on Hospital Rd. A New Jersey woman who authorities say put her newborn baby in the middle of a road and set the child on fire was charged Saturday with murder. Burlington County prosecutors said Hyphernkemberly Dorvilier, 22, of Pemberton Township was jailed on $500,000 bail. It wasn't known if she has retained a lawyer. Outgoing Gov. David Paterson called this morning for a criminal investigation into allegations that a slowdown by budget-squeezed plow operators contributed to the city’s blizzard woes. The Post reported today that a group of guilt-ridden sanitation workers confessed their protest plot to City Councilman Dan Halloran (R-Queens). The workers were fuming over recent job cuts and cutbacks, the councilman and other sources told The Post.

NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Florida police say a newborn baby who was tossed out of a car window onto a street is in critical condition. Authorities in North Lauderdale said they believe the boy was only hours old. A car sped off after the child was tossed out. The boy was rescued by a woman passing by in her car. The infant was taken to a nearby a nearby sheriff's office and then by helicopter to a hospital. Authorities said the baby boy was doing remarkably well. A sheriff's spokesman said, "We're hopeful that he'll recover."
