The Bible clearly says that women should dress modestly. Why does much of the church in America not follow what the Bible says? (And I'm a woman myself, I should add). It's not so much new believers who dress immodestly who are a concern, but women in leadership. "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works." (1 Timothy 2:9-10)

A Utah dad fed up with his daughter’s preference for very short shorts decided to teach her a lesson by donning some Daisy Dukes of his own. Scott Mackintosh was about to go on a family night out, but when he asked his daughter to kindly change into longer shorts and she refused, he took some scissors to an old pair of his own jeans. The result was a revealing pair of cut-offs designed to show his daughter her shorts aren’t ‘as cute as she thinks.’ ‘In our family we have pretty definite modesty guidelines,’ writes Mackintosh on his wife...

New Jersey Woman Says She Was Fired For Being Too Busty (ABC News) A New Jersey woman says she was fired from her job after her manager told her to "tape her breasts" down, and now has filed suit against the company claiming religious and sexual discrimination. Former data entry worker Lauren Odes said that after two days with Native Intimates, a midtown Manhattan wholesale lingerie company, a supervisor told her the store owners were not happy with her outfit, suggesting it was too "distracting." "When I first started working there, I asked what the dress code was, and I...

Heather Mallick, columnist for The Star, is angry. What has her so upset? The fact that a young man who attends a Catholic school should have the audacity to exhort young women to be modest in their attire. Matt Gurney, writing for the National Post, said that the 17 year old Catholic student, "clearly believes that many of his female peers do not treat each other, or themselves, with due respect, and he wishes that everyone would focus more on how wonderful they are on the inside and not how attractive they can make themselves on the outside." This is...

AJAX, Ontario, March 5, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A grade 12 student at a Catholic high school in Ontario was suspended in February after handing out a letter containing his thoughts on the need for greater modesty in his school. “[R]eal attractiveness doesn’t come from wearing the latest fashion, and it doesn’t come from being scantily clad in public, or putting on make-up, or having a pretty face, or a nice body,” wrote Paul Gomille, 17, in his Valentine’s Day letter addressed to all women, which he handed out at Archbishop Denis O’Connor high school in Ajax, Ontario during lunch hour....

Writing for the National Post, Matt Gurney tells us that, 'Last month, on Valentine’s Day, student Paul Gomille circulated 136 copies of a speech that he had written. He passed them out in the cafeteria of his Toronto-area Catholic high school. The speech was on the topic of a woman’s inner beauty — Mr. Gomille, 17, clearly believes that many of his female peers do not treat each other, or themselves, with due respect, and he wishes that everyone would focus more on how wonderful they are on the inside and not how attractive they can make themselves on the...

FIFA vice president Prince Ali Al Hussein will propose that soccer's governing body agree on "general principles" for the use of Islamic headscarfs. He'll bring the issue up at the meeting of the Executive Committee in December. FIFA banned the Islamic scarf covering a women's neck in 2007 claiming safety concerns. A statement from the Asian Football Confederation says Tuesday the proposals will ensure "the safe use of hijab in the game..."

Imagine seeing your parish priest approach the altar to say Mass wearing a T-shirt displaying a beer logo, while sporting a pair of shorts and a set of flip-flops. Or, listening to the sister in charge of your parish make an announcement at Mass dressed in a miniskirt and spaghetti straps. We’d be shocked, because priests and nuns represent the Catholic church, are intermediaries between God and us, and they’re not supposed to dress like that. What about some Catholics who attend Mass wearing tight-fitting shorts, sleeveless blouses, and even less than that? What gives them the right to enter...

Bums, buttocks, tushes. Since I am on vacation at the beach it is no surprise that they are everywhere. Big ones, baby ones and ones that I covet for my very own. Yet, as different as these bottoms may be in size and shape they are almost uniformly appareled in teensy weensy bikini bottoms. I grew up in a conservative Muslim household and would sooner order pork loin for dinner washed back with a couple of bottles of Heineken than stroll down the beach in a two piece. Even if modesty wasn’t an issue, my 40-something derriere and my belly...

Churches across France have become overrun by tourists in skimpy beachwear, showing off bare stomachs and wearing baseball caps, according to priests who have spoken out about the drop in standards. A report in regional newspaper Midi Libre claims that religious leaders have tired of the increasingly disrespectful dress codes of some visitors. “Our church is right by the beach,” said Father Martin Gabet of the Notre Dame des Anges de Collioure church, close to the Spanish border. “As a result, lots of people come in wearing their swimwear. There have even been people who come in just to change...

Dear Rihanna and Nicki Minaj, you are both hot but please don't let your hotness burn other people, especially, the many young guys and girls that look up to you. I'll like you to remember that innocence is beauty and once this innocence is taken from your young fans it is gone forever.

"A dress cannot be called decent which is cut deeper than two fingers' breadth under the pit of the throat;; which does not cover the arms at least to the elbows; and scarcely reaches a bit beyond the knees. Furthermore, dresses of transparent material are improper." (The Cardinal vicar of Pope Pius XI) Marylike is modest without compromise, "like Mary", Christ's Mother. Marylike dresses have sleeves extending at least to the elbows; and skirts reaching below the knees. Acceptable Marylike Standards have been revealed in many private revelations since 1917 throughout the world. One of these standards is the dress...

If 10-year-olds can't drive to the mall or earn a paycheck, how are they ending up clad in push-up bras, tube tops and low-riding jeans? It's parents' fault, says CNN contributor LZ Granderson, who chides moms and dads in his column "Parents, don't dress your girls like tramps."

It is springtime and the first truly warm day on campus. Girls are returning from morning class scantily clothed with tight shorts, mini- skirts, and shirts exposing both stomach and breasts. Other girls can be seen jogging nearby wearing nothing but a skimpy pair of spandex running shorts and a sports bra. Is it possible that these girls have been dressing like that since junior high, elementary, or even preschool? More importantly, are these the fashions that show up on college campuses when we, as mothers, refuse to engage in teaching the proper fashion balance between trendy and modesty in...

America was outraged when full-body scanners, which showed revealing pictures of air passengers, were introduced. Now, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has bowed to pressure to introduce new software that will show just the outline of the person travelling. The new scanner software, being trialled in three U.S. airports, will reveal any abnormalities on a generic male or female figure that looks similar to a chalk outline In another change the new software will only alert staff when a questionable object is detected and those being scanned will be able to see their image on a screen as they exit...

In the beginning God created mankind. They sinned and realized they were naked. They covered up their loins, but they didn’t cover all their nakedness. God would soon cover the nakedness of both man and woman. There was no “cultural definition” of nakedness. What God established from the beginning is the definition of nakedness for all time. What God covered them with was a “coat”. By definition, such an article of clothing begins above the shoulders and would go below the loins. This means chest, stomach, and back were also covered as naked. However, this term “coat” is not the...

THE “DRESS TEST” FOR WOMEN PROFESSING GODLINESSBy Mary Martini Look at yourself in a full length mirror – front, back and sideways! Ask yourself the following: Will what I am wearing bring God glory (1 Corinthians 10:31; Exodus 28:40, 43; Isaiah 61:3) and portray me as a godly woman? (1 Timothy 2:9,10) Yes or no? Does what I am wearing meet or exceed God’s standard for being modest? (Genesis 3:21; Exodus 20:26; 28:40-43) Yes or no? You know! Is it appropriate and respectful? (Genesis 41:14; Matthew 22:11-14) When I dress, would someone think I was going to a picnic or...

The absence from public view of President Obama on the Monday before election day was explained by Press Secretary Robert Gibbs as “an episode of tremendous heroism in the face of great danger. You may have heard the story of rescue of Elyse Frankcom in Australia by an ‘unidentified man. Well I am pleased to be able to tell you that the man was none other than President Obama.” Nineteen-year-old Frankcom was leading a “swimming with dolphins” encounter in waters off western Australia when she was grabbed by a 10 foot long great white shark. An unidentified man described as...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLp1ZI33ZSI In today's video, Missy and I discuss a topic that never fails to be controversial: Modesty in dress. The Bible, in 1st Timothy 2:9-10, commands it. Paul wrote, "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works." With seven daughters, we take this matter seriously. That's why, in an effort to lead by example, I have vowed to never wear miniskirts, strapless evening gowns, or gownless evening straps. I'm not talking legalism here...
