He said it. Is he a racist, bigoted Islamophobe? Where did he get this idea, anyway? From “Islamophobic literature”? Or has he imbibed the culture of violence created by a religion that sanctions the beating of women? The mandate to beat one’s wife is in the Qur’an: “Men have authority over women because Allah has made the one superior to the other, and because they spend their wealth to maintain them. Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because Allah has guarded them. As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and send them to beds...

Fellow Freepers, I have posted before and will post again, the music coming over the Spanish-language stations in the United States is largely intolerable in its content. You need to get a fluently bilingual friend to listen to the Norteno-type "country" Mexican music and report what is heard. Just this afternoon, driving home from work, the music coming from a station in Austin, 107.1 FM, was so bad that I wanted to shut the station down immediately. If such music were produced in the English language with the same messaage towards the Spanish-speaking community as they sing out over our...

On December 1, 1955, after a long day of work Rosa Parks boarded a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. She took her seat in the ‘colored’ section, but as she rode the Cleveland Avenue bus home, the bus began to fill. The Montgomery city ordinance allowed bus drivers to assign seating. However, it did not permit them to demand a passenger give up their seat. Despite this, bus drivers had customarily required black passengers to give up their seats to white passengers when the public transportation became full. When Rosa Parks was asked to give up her seat, she refused. She...

The intercontinental ballistic missile that North Korea launched on Wednesday appears to be significantly larger and more powerful than previous versions, according to independent analysts. "It's a monster," says Vipin Narang, an associate professor at MIT who tracks the North's nuclear capabilities. The missile is so much larger than previous versions that Narang suspects it could carry a powerful thermonuclear weapon, regardless of whether the North has managed to make a compact, missile-friendly version. "They wouldn't have to miniaturize much," Narang says. Other analysts are less sure about what the missile could carry and where it could reach. David Wright,...
