Wyoming GOP Rep. Liz Cheney said at The Texas Tribune festival Saturday that if former President Donald Trump becomes the Republican Party's nominee for president in 2024, she will not remain a Republican. "I'm going to make sure Donald Trump, I'm going to do everything I can to make sure he is not the nominee. And if he is the nominee, I won't be a Republican," Cheney said. Cheney also said she will campaign for Democrats to ensure that Republican candidates who promote election lies do not get elected.

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said on Saturday that she will not vote for Harriet Hageman, the Republican nominee for Wyoming’s at-large House seat, in November’s election. Hageman, who was endorsed by former President Trump, defeated Cheney in the state’s Republican primary in August. “She’s sworn an oath to the Constitution as a member of the Wyoming State Bar,” Cheney told Texas Tribune CEO Evan Smith at the paper’s 2022 festival. “And she continues to make the assertion that somehow the 2020 election was stolen … I know that she knows better.”

Representative Liz Cheney, a Wyoming Republican, criticized Fox News Thursday for having retired Army Colonel Douglas Macgregor, who has made controversial comments about Russia's war in Ukraine, on as a guest. "Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch - Why do you continually put Douglas MacGregor on @FoxNews to spread Putin's propaganda and lies? This is absolutely not in America's interest," Cheney said in a tweet referring to the Murdochs, who control Fox Corporation.

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives passed a bill to alter the 1887 Electoral Count Act. The so called "Presidential Election Reform Act" revises rules pertaining to the congressional certification of presidential elections, which some contend will benefit Democrats. The bill was sponsored by Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), who lost her primary race in August and leaves office on January 3, along with Democrat Rep. Zoe Lofgren, both of whom are on the January 6 Committee. [cut] Extending elections Among the changes this bill makes to the 135-year-old law is an extension of time for a presidential election. The House of Representatives passed legislation on Wednesday to overhaul the 1887 Electoral Count Act and re-write election rules to benefit Democrats in presidential contests. The bill, proposed by GOP Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney and Rep. Zoe Lofgren, a Democrat from California who is under Cheney on the Jan. 6 Committee, reforms the 135-year-old law to narrow the grounds for objections to presidential electors and open the door to late-day voting. Cheney’s “Presidential Election Reform Act” became the Democrats’ answer to their failed effort to override state election laws in H.R. 1, which Senate Republicans blocked last summer. The legislation...

If you walk past the Wyoming Republican Party’s tent these days, beware. You may have to dodge members being thrown out of the three-ring circus. On Saturday, the party’s overachieving central committee censured Sen. Cale Case of Lander, denied support to Republicans running as independents in November and condemned the actions of a legislative committee and 10 GOP lawmakers. The state party told Case, a Republican lawmaker for the past 30 years, to join a different party or run as an independent. Karl Allred of Uinta County bluntly delivered a similar message to Republicans who plan to challenge GOP primary...

Lawmaker says FBI shift in focus is coming at the expense of other crimes, including child sex exploitation. The top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee said Monday a whistleblower has come forward detailing how the FBI is manipulating cases related to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot to create "the illusion" that domestic violent extremism is a widespread problem in the United States. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said in a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray that the "manipulative case-file practice" was being conducted by the bureau's Washington field office, which was instructing local FBI offices to open up cases on...

Reps. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) and Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), two members of the Jan. 6 House panel, introduced a bill Monday to reform the Electoral College Act, offering a number of provisions to protect elections from interference by state and federal lawmakers. The Presidential Election Reform Act (PERA) would make clear that the role of the vice president in presiding over the counting of electoral votes is purely “ministerial.” It also takes aim at potential action from the lawmakers’ colleagues to object to states’ electoral slates, requiring that a third of the members from both chambers must object to the certification,...

Pro-impeachment and 21-year incumbent Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) has adopted departing Rep. Liz Cheney’s (R-WY) January 6 insurrection narrative heading into the November midterm election. “That was insurrection,” Murkowski claimed on the With All Due Respect podcast with Andrew Halcro, referring to the riot. “Criminals who come in, who raided the capital on January 6, need to be tried under the due process of the law. … We need to make sure we’ve got a process that is truly fair under our Constitution, and that is what we are seeing going forward.”

Representative Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) said Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that his colleague on the January 6 House Select Committee, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), has acted with courage, comparing her to Winston Churchill. Kinzinger said, “I’ll say about Liz, you know people always in their life dream about this opportunity to kind of stand up alone in a crowd and do the right thing, and only a few people actually get that chance. What I’ve noticed is that even fewer that get that chance have the courage to do it. It’s one thing to read something in a history book...

Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) said Monday on CNN’s “The Lead” that Donald Trump’s refusal to concede his defeat in the 2020 presidential election put the nation in a dangerous “no man’s land.” CNN anchor Jake Tapper asked about New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman’s new book claiming that Trump planned to stay at the White House after the election.

When Liz Cheney was picked by Nancy Pelosi to serve as vice-chair of the Jan. 6 Select Committee, the Wyoming lawmaker launched one of her biggest lies. Cheney said she took the job to ensure the committee would achieve its goal of conducting a "nonpartisan, professional and thorough investigation" of the Capitol riots. But her time on the panel has not been nonpartisan, professional or thorough. From the very start, she helped load the scales against Donald Trump. At no time did Cheney bother to act judiciously or fairly.

Harriet Hageman is the environmental lawyer who defeated incumbent Rep. Liz Cheney by a landslide in Wyoming's much-watched Republican House primary. Hageman, who will surely trounce token Democratic opposition in the general election, is now getting ready to take office. She was in Washington this week — not for that preparation but to argue in a lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency over its disastrous actions causing the Gold King Mine disaster in Colorado in 2015. That's the kind of thing she does in her life as a lawyer. While in Washington, Hageman sat down with me to record an...

Many Republicans have rallied to former President Trump’s defense over the FBI’s search of his Mar-a-Lago home, echoing his claims that the move was politically motivated and unjustified. However, a number of GOP figures have broken ranks to defend the Department of Justice (DOJ) and critique Trump’s handling of classified material.

Rep. Liz Cheney’s defeat in Wyoming a preview of things to come. Editor: I am looking at a magazine that asks, “Will Liz Cheney and the Jan. 6 committee end Donald Trump’s political career?” Sorry to disappoint Trump haters, but the citizens of Wyoming thought otherwise. Trump still wants to drain the swamp, and it looks like he’s practicing by draining the swamp inhabitants in his own party. Most of the candidates he endorsed won in the primaries. His political career is very alive, alive enough to scare the Democratic elite. Between the Jan. 6 committee, the FBI raid and...

Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), a member of the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, said Sunday that deleted Secret Service texts sent the day before and day of the insurrection will be turned over to the panel by Tuesday. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) alleges that messages from Jan. 5 and Jan. 6, 2021 were erased as part of a planned system migration. “You can imagine how shocked we were to get the letter from the [DHS] Inspector General saying that he had been trying to get this information and that they had,...

By this time two years from now, and probably quite a bit earlier than that, we will know the identity of the Republican presidential nominee for 2024. Most likely it will be Donald Trump. If he doesn’t wind up running, the nominee will probably be Florida governor Ron DeSantis, or possibly a potential candidate from the ranks of MAGA-friendly conservatives. We don’t know for sure what will happen. But we do know at least two pols who will emphatically not be raising hands with a running mate in Milwaukee in 2024: soon-to-be-former congresswoman Liz Cheney and term-limited Maryland governor Larry Hogan....
