DURHAM, N.C. -- Mike Nifong is trying to reassure voters that he's the man for the job a day after a potential challenger said he won't pursue the district attorney job. Nifong admitted Friday that there's some justification to criticism about how he handled the media with the Duke case. "My handling of the media coverage of this case has occasioned substantial criticism, some of which is undoubtedly justified," Nifong said during a half-hour press conference. "I both underestimated the level of media attention this case would draw and misjudged the effect that my words would have. That having been...

'Gritty?' Come here punk; I'll show you "gritty." Under most circumstances, talking to the television set will get you a padded room at the Hoo Hoo Hotel. An angry monologue was the only response, though, when the ABC News "Nightline" segment on the Duke University lacrosse scandal opened last week with a shot of three obscure, ramshackle buildings that the narrator used to illustrate Durham's deteriorated state. "Durham," a reporter intoned, "is a gritty city that has seen its better days." Why, you dirty ... . At the same time I was whispering unsweet expletives at the screen, across town...

CNSNews.com) - A Los Angeles County employee is suing the county in an effort to prevent officials from removing a cross from the county's seal. Removing the cross sends a "government-sponsored message of hostility towards Christians," Ernesto Vasquez' lawsuit says. The Thomas More Law Center, which is representing Vasquez, filed the lawsuit Friday in federal district court in Los Angeles. "California has become a battleground for anti-Christian forces," said Attorney Charles LiMandri, director of the Law Center's West Coast regional office. "Whether it be same-sex marriage, the removal of 'under God' from the Pledge of Allegiance, or now the removal...
