Megyn Kelly on Fox made an interesting observation on the first debate. Mitt Romney would watch Barack Obama during the debate while Obama tended to look at Jim Lehrer or the cameras. I had halfway noticed this situation during the debate but didn't really consider the implications until she commented. I went back and fast forwarded through the debate. Romney would look at Obama for significant periods, but Obama only occasionally glanced at Romney before looking away or looking down. An obvious explanation for Obama not looking at Romney is that Obama felt intimidated by Romney. The debates cannot resolve...

Bob Bauer is resigning as the top lawyer in the White House, the Obama administration announced Thursday morning. Kathy Ruemmler, a deputy, will take the job. Bauer will return to the Perkins Coie law firm at the end of June but will still be a "general counsel" to President Obama's campaign and the Democratic National Committee, as well as a "personal lawyer" to Obama, the White House says. “Bob is a good friend and has served as a trusted advisor for many years,” Obama said in a statement. “Bob was a critical member of the White House team. He has...

For John McCain and the Republicans, there’s nowhere to go but up. Cut through all of the self-congratulatory talk about how foresighted and responsible they were in voting for the $700 billion mortgage bailout and the truth is that the GOP today is staring into a political abyss. The stock market has fallen, and the remarkable political bounce that Republicans had gained with Sarah Palin’s vice-presidential nomination is gone. Obama has surged into the lead in the polls by depicting McCain as out of touch, aided by the Arizona senator’s erratic, muddled performance on the bailout. First, he temporarily suspended...

Dale Earnhardt is one of the most intriguing personalities in American history, let alone American sports history. Folks are captivated by his life and death whether or not they respect or understand what he did. He was Elvis and John Wayne and Steve McQueen and Christa McAuliffe all melded into one bad SOB. Hence, doing justice to his story is no simple task. Producing a movie on his life that gives a true indication of who he was, and why, is all but impossible. (See: "3"). But it now has been done. "Dale," a collaboration between CMT Productions and NASCAR...
