A loophole in the new law granting driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants could allow hundreds of thousands of people to fraudulently register to vote in New York, according to critics, the state Board of Elections and the bill’s own sponsor. The Green Light Bill, which passed the Senate 33-29 Monday and was signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, allows illegal immigrants to obtain “standard” state driver’s licenses that can be used for identification and to board domestic flights. But it is also the sole document required to register to vote, according to officials. Even legislative sponsor Luis Sepúlveda (D-Bronx) admitted the...

Hofstra University student activists are calling for the removal of a statue of Thomas Jefferson from campus near New York City because they say the third American president represents racism and slavery. Students participated Friday in the second annual “Jefferson Has Gotta Go!” event over the statue that has been subject to protests and acts of vandalism in the past, with some previously defacing it with “DECOLONIZE” and “Black Lives Matter” slogans. A petition last year was launched urging to move the Founding Father’s statue to a museum with proper context rather than display it “on a college campus, especially...

The host of the first presidential debate on Monday night, Hofstra University in New York, may have broken the law and could be in line for a huge fine. Reporters at the event were appalled to find that among the heavily marked-up items they were offered – $150 to rent a lamp, anyone? – was a $200 charge for a "secure wireless internet connection." Worse than the clear effort to price-gouge people trying to file stories, however, was the fact that the university decided that only its wireless access points were allowed to be used, and even sent someone around...

I thought is was odd that she had notes to look at before responding to a question? How do you prep notes for a question you have not heard? I also thought her mic/earpiece unit was unnecessary as the podium had the mic for the debaters. Here is a good shot of it...

Hillary Clinton came on stage, dressed like Chairwoman Mao and leering at Trump like a possessed clown. Trump went long and deep on first down, but soon found himself in a running game slug fest against Madame Secretary in a debate version of the Ice Bowl. The debate was divided into various sections that lasted roughly 15 minutes each: The Economy: Clinton – She burst out of the blocks, sounding like she had memorized her first opening statement, and by reciting typical Democratic tenets: raise the minimum wage, raise taxes, more family leave and company profit sharing. Batting her eyes...

Tomorrow night’s debate might be one of the most watched events in US television history, in competition with the Who Shot JR? cliffhanger and the last episode of MASH. The stakes are high and nothing less than the White House. Failure tomorrow night for either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton may signal the beginning of a permanent downward trend in their campaigns. Hillary Clinton will walk on stage in the attack mode and with all the charm of a pit bull locked in a broom closet. Hillary’s soft side is a bed of nails. She’ll attempt to be tough and...

“In light of Wright State University’s announcement of earlier today, the September 26, 2016 Presidential Debate will be held at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY. The Commission very much appreciates Wright State’s efforts. Hofstra University served very successfully as a presidential debate site in 2012. On September 23, 2015, the Commission announced that Hofstra University had agreed to serve as an alternate site this debate cycle if needed. The Commission looks forward to working with Hofstra once again.”

Just a week into her reign as Miss America 2015, Kira Kazantsev has had to answer questions about a three month internship at Planned Parenthood and getting kicked out of her Hofstra University sorority for abusive hazing. “Under the broad definition of hazing, yes, I was involved,” Kazantsev told "Good Morning America" on Tuesday. “At the time, unfortunately, that was just the culture of the university, and I was hazed, and I was kind of brought up through the organization thinking that is appropriate behavior.” While the story made headlines and forced Kazantsev to explain her actions on national television,...

The 21-year-old Hofstra student who was killed during a Long Island home invasion was shot dead by a police officer as the gunman had her in a headlock and was trying to drag her out of the house, officials said Saturday. Nassau County Police said at a news conference Andrea Rebello was killed by police, not by the armed gunman who was trying to rob the off-campus house where she was living with her twin sister, Jessica, and several others. Rebello, a Hofstra junior studying public relations, and suspect Dalton Smith, 30, were both shot and killed as he was...

President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney will answer to a pool of about 100 undecided voters in Wednesday's town-hall style presidential debate in Hempstead, N.Y. The voters were selected by the Gallup Organization, which has been tracking the Obama-Romney matchup on a daily basis throughout the general election. This is the 20th anniversary of Gallup's partnering with the Commission on Presidential Debates for a town-hall style debate. In 1992, Gallup editor in chief Frank Newport said, no one had any idea what questions would be asked, and moderator Carole Simpson moved through the crowd of voters at random....

I hope I write another piece on Sarah Palin again. The woman is an antidote, and I choose my words carefully there. She is everything that is right with America, and indeed, that is the only reason I’m writing this at all. This essay is altogether far more a commentary on The Undefeated's America than it is on the woman herself. Our national problem is Palin Derangement Syndrome far more than it is Palin. There have always been people like Sarah Palin, and presumably there always will be. The two real questions are why Marxists are so worried about them...

I hope I never write another piece on Sarah Palin again. The woman is a disease, and I choose my words carefully there. She is everything that is wrong with America, and indeed, that is the only reason I’m writing this at all. This essay is altogether far more a commentary on Governor Quit’s America than it is on the woman herself. Our national problem is Palinosis far more than it is Palin. There have always been people like Sarah Palin, and presumably there always will be. The two real questions are why anyone cares about them and, most astonishingly,...

Newly hired Hofstra men's basketball coach Tim Welsh resigned on Monday, three days after he was arrested and charged with drunken driving on Long Island, the university said. "The university accepted the resignation in the best interests of the university and of the men's basketball program," Hofstra said in a brief statement announcing the move. His lawyer did not immediately return a telephone message. Welsh's voicemail box was full. Hofstra suspended Welsh without pay on Friday after learning through media reports that Nassau County police had charged him with driving while intoxicated in Levittown, N.Y., earlier in the morning. Nassau...

Goofy In Garden State Bethany Stotts, May 3, 2010 Amid record-level turnout, New Jersey residents recently voted down 58% of school district’s proposed budgets (and proposed tax increases), reported USA Today on April 21. “Districts on the losing end must now work with municipal officials to craft a funding solution by May 19. Layoffs and other cuts are likely,” it states. Republican Governor Chris Christie has called for a reduction of $820 million in education funding amid a $10.7 billion deficit, reported Terrence Dopp for Businessweek on April 29. Amid the pending cuts and layoffs, thousands of students took to...

SNIP Barack Obama has now, in just a year's time, become the single most inept president perhaps in all of American history, and certainly in my lifetime. Never has so much political advantage been p***ed away so rapidly, and what's more in the context of so much national urgency and crisis. It's astonishing, really, to contemplate how much has been lost in a single year. SNIP But the election in Massachusetts was only slightly less inevitable than the sun rising in the east each morning. It was the product of an amazing collection of abysmal choices and practices over the...
