Credits: William James / Wikimedia Commons / Public Domain Headwear has been an essential fashion item for almost as long as it has existed, but people these days are not wearing hats as often as they used to in times past. Since ancient Egypt and ancient Greece, people have worn headwear. Men and women commonly used headwear, and pharaohs wore their iconic Nemes striped headcloth to communicate their status. In the Middle Ages, there were laws...

Joy Behar told her co-host Tuesday on ABC’s “The View” that people who wear MAGA hats should “put a swastika” on it while discussing a since-removed video re-posted to Donald Trump’s Truth Social account that briefly showed an image calling for a “unified Reich.” Co-host Sunny Hostin said, “I think that it’s so dangerous that he is willing to shout out the quiet part. And I don’t understand what Biden can do really to counter that narrative because if you don’t hear what he’s saying, then you’re never going to hear anything.” Co-host Sara Haines said, “I agree with the...

Actor-comedian Jim Carrey, a prolifically hostile opponent of President Trump and his supporters, heaped praise upon failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams on Monday, deeming her a “political superstar” who “rescued Georgia from the Red Hats.”

Truth be told, enthusiasm is actually a stronger indicator of election victory than the ridiculous fake polls that the media puts out there. Enthusiasm cannot be precisely measured, but you can feel it in the excitement of the rally crowd in Tulsa and the pre-rally video clips of people waiting in line and merchants selling Trump gear and apparel. The devil is in the details. The difference between Trump and Biden is especially stark in the promotion and publicity area. It really helps when the candidate being sold—President — Donald J. Trump — is a tremendous performer. But it’s...

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.(Genesis 3:15)And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.(Revelation 12:17)We see by these texts that the Serpent of Genesis becomes a Dragon by Revelation. He is the enemy of all mankind, the original murderer and tempter, whose task is to alienate all men from God. But the Dragon/Serpent hates...

President Donald Trump responded to media complaints on Thursday because he signed Make America Great Again hats for the troops overseas. CNN & others within the Fake News Universe were going wild about my signing MAGA hats for our military in Iraq and Germany. If these brave young people ask me to sign their hat, I will sign. Can you imagine my saying NO? We brought or gave NO hats as the Fake News first reported!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 27, 2018

As they prepare to welcome two newly-elected Muslim women into the 116th Congress, Democrats have proposed a clarification to a 181-year-old rule banning representatives from wearing hats on the House floor. If approved, the new rules would allow lawmakers to wear religious headwear, like hijabs and kippahs, once Democrats take control of the chamber in January. Representative-elect Ilhan Omar, one of the first two Muslim women to serve in Congress, wears a headscarf. She was born in Somalia and came to the United States as a refugee.

Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who claims she was physically attacked at a high school party by Supreme Court Justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh three decades ago, has taken part in events opposing President Donald Trump, including a science march in California last year where she donned a version of the “pussy hats” worn at the January 2017 Women’s March. Blasey Ford is cited in a San Jose Mercury News article as wearing the hat at the march, which the newspaper said was held because people were “angered by the Trump administration’s proposed cuts to research.”

Junior female sailors are not the only women to get new uniforms. Female officers and senior enlisted sailors will wear updated styles, such as new combination covers. By the fall of 2016, both enlisted men and women will receive new service dress blues, what the Navy calls “crackerjacks.” ... The “Dixie cup” style dates back to 1886 when it was first incorporated into Navy uniform regulations, according to the Navy’s historical site. “It can be squared, rolled, crushed, fitted with ‘gull wings’ or simply worn as it comes from small stores. It can be used as a flotation device or...

I Miss Women Wearing Hats and Veils in Church. A brief reminiscence of days gone by.By: Msgr. Charles Pope I know, I know, I am so hopelessly old fashioned. But I want to say, I miss women wearing hats. I have written before (HERE) of how I miss them wearing the veil in Church. But even before the veil, the hat was more commonly worn by women in 1940s and before (See photo below left, of my parish taken in the early 1950s, click photo for a larger view). Veils became popular in the later 1950s and 1960s before...

The story is sweeping the Internet: President Barack Obama is trying to emasculate male Marines by making them wear a girly cover with their famed dress uniforms. The only problem? It’s not true. First, some background: Men and women in the Marine Corps currently wear different types of covers as part of their dress and service uniforms. The manufacturer of the women’s “bucket cover” – which has a distinctly different shape than the men’s cover – is going out of business and will not continue to make the cap, according to the Marine Corps. The Marine Corps also has been...

Barack Obama wants the US Marines to start wearing girly unisex hats. The New York Post reported: A change to the Marine Corps’ uniform hats could take the hard-nosed Leathernecks from the Halls of Montezuma to the shops of Christopher Street. Thanks to a plan by President Obama to create a “unisex” look for the Corps, officials are on the verge of swapping out the Marines’ iconic caps with a new hat that some have derided as so “girly” that they would make the French blush. “We don’t even have enough funding to buy bullets, and the DoD is pushing...

“I needed a drink, I needed a lot of life insurance, I needed a vacation, I needed a home in the country,” Raymond Chandler’s famously precise private eye Philip Marlowe observed in 1940’s Farewell, My Lovely. “What I had was a coat, a hat and a gun.” The hat, a fedora most likely, was once as crucial to detective work as a sidearm and trench coat. And utterly masculine. The same could be said about the business of hockey. Archival black-and-white shots of famous National Hockey League coaches such as the Toronto Maple Leafs’ Punch Imlach or Toe Blake of...

... So what happened? Why did guys stop wearing headgear in midcentury America? The turning point, most people say, was John F. Kennedy's inauguration. Before Kennedy, all presidents wore top hats on their first day at work. Kennedy brought one, but hardly ever put it on. Fashionistas say Kennedy, one of our most charismatic presidents, made hats un-happen. And, chronologically speaking, after JFK, guys everywhere, even balding ones like astronaut John Glenn, went topless. But I am the son of a hat designer. And my father, Allen S. Krulwich, had a different explanation. The president who de-hatted America, he thought,...

A source on the Rick Perry campaign tells Hot Air that the Texas governor conducted some Texas-size fundraising in the third quarter. Coming in just a little over halfway through, Perry raised $17.1 million. That number would put Perry somewhere between $4-6 million ahead of Mitt Romney’s rumored total for Q3, according to this report last week from the Boston Globe. It’s also likely to far outpace Herman Cain’s fundraising or that of the other Republicans currently in the race. The pace is even more impressive. Perry had 49 days in which to raise funds, rather than the full 92...

It's got to be the hat . . . In an entertaining interview with Tamron Hall on MSNBC this afternoon, Dem congresswoman Frederica Wilson of Florida cited "racism" first among causes of high black unemployment. She also: called for a second stimulus; said now is not the time to criticize President Obama; took a sideways swipe at Maxine Waters; and asserted President Obama would be defeated for re-election if he tried to help the black community. No sport in America is more patriotic than Major League Baseball, so it was odd that the powers that be got in the way of a tribute to our fallen military heroes. The Washington Nationals, who play their home games just down the street from the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol, wanted to wear special hats with military insignias during their game with the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night. This was the Nats' first home game since 30 soldiers riding in a helicopter were killed in Afghanistan on August 6th. But Commissioner Bud Selig's top executives stopped it from happening.
