Washington’s “invasive,” “coercive” and “unprecedented” directive requiring residents to wear a mask or equivalent face covering in public places has been challenged by a lawsuit arguing the state cannot compel citizens to meekly support whatever newest guess the government is making when responding to the COVID-19 virus. Filed in Lewis County Superior Court on Wednesday by the Freedom Foundation on behalf of seven state residents, the action targets the face coverings order issued on June 24 by Washington Secretary of Health Dr. John Wiesman.

I cannot believe I missed my own anniversary. I joined FR 22 years ago, during the height of the Clinton Impeachment. So many great memories. Teleios evaluated various publicly available social, political and economic measures of the 20 countries with the highest average Gross Domestic Product (GDP) who were listed in the top 25% of the Economic Freedom Index versus the 20 with the GDP in the bottom 75%. Our analysis showed countries with the highest mean GDP also ranked in the top 25% of free countries, and demonstrated additional differences that might impact general wellbeing, including greater: human, economic and press freedom, more happiness and less corruption. Teleios found that countries that are most free not only demonstrate better average wellbeing, but are associated with numerous economic, legal, security, health, and educational measures associated potentially with enhanced wellbeing for the entire population as well as for women and children. Further, freer countries are much more likely to be Christian. In contrast, countries which persecute Christians are associated with poorer measures of freedom and wellbeing for the entire population. In summary, freedom in Christianity is good for society in promoting a healthy population!

The good news is that he reports that Dean Eduardo Peñalver "properly has defended my writings as protected within my academic freedom, although he strongly disagrees with my views." While protecting faculty's academic freedom is indeed proper, and in fact the perhaps the most important task a dean is charged with in regard to his faculty, nowadays such action cannot always be assumed, so good for Dean Peñalver.
