"Under conditions that strongly suggest forced labour, Uyghurs are working in factories that are in the supply chains of at least 83 well-known global brands in the technology, clothing and automotive sectors, including Apple, BMW, Gap, Huawei, Nike, Samsung, Sony and Volkswagen. This report estimates that more than 80,000 Uyghurs were transferred out of Xinjiang to work in factories across China between 2017 and 2019, and some of them were sent directly from detention camps. The estimated figure is conservative and the actual figure is likely to be far higher." — "Uyghurs for Sale," the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI),...

I got an e-mail from the CEO of my employer, a top 10 bank, apologizing for "role our heritage companies played over 100 years ago to perpetuate the atrocity of slavery". He said the company will invest some money in minority communities and companies to "demonstrated a sincere commitment...to affect positive change". Nothing in the e-mail about disgorging the compensation of the CEO or the companies profits for reparations.

...Directing the vague anxieties and alienation of protesters away from economic concerns towards racial grievances helps the establishment. It allows those who are responsible for our current state of affairs to erect and then topple a strawman of “white privilege.” This bogeyman is a cruel joke to an out-of-work coal miner in Appalachia or an unemployed barista in Minneapolis. As long as the protesters are focused on racial grievances, they are not paying attention to the actual policies and privileges of a rich and powerful establishment mostly indifferent to the nation in which it prospers. While I have no doubt...

Following up on companies like Sony, Funimation, and NetherRealm Studios showing their true colors, various other corporations have stepped out of the shadows to openly make it known that they are traitors of peace, and betrayers of the American people. You can find the full list for the Traitors of America here. One of the original instigators of race baiting and sowing the seeds of corporate treason in America, Nike, was also one of the first to start the corporate bandwagon to pit America against itself when they tweeted out the following on May 29th, 2020. Received a company wide e-mail this morning stating in honor of Juneteenth workerspeasants are encouraged to wear apparel supporting BLM. Wearing a black T-shirt would show support too. Followed by LGBTQ+ apparel day on June 26, if I was someone who is suppose to be covered by the "+" I would be insulted. Thankfully I have been working from home since middle of March so I do not need to roll me eyes walking around work those days. If I did go to work I would make sure to wear my typical white button down shirt tomorrow. I am not...

Twenty-six years ago, Morgan Stanley hired Marilyn Booker as their first diversity director, charged with overseeing corporate efforts from the firm’s New York City headquarters, a 685-foot, glass, Times Square skyscraper. Ten years ago, Booker left that post to work in their financial wealth management division. Seven months ago, Booker was fired. But that was before video aired of George Floyd’s death, and spreading, national protests escalated into riots, violence, church burning, monument defacing, and occupations. How quickly things change. Now Booker is leading a group of black women in suing the company that employed her for a quarter-century, charging that...

To be clear, based on the complaint unsealed today, eBay executives were not just unhappy about the victims' coverage, they were enraged. One of those executives texted that he wanted to, ‘crush this lady,’” he said. (Snip) Several of the defendants allegedly drove to the victims’ home several times, with Harville and Baugh intending at one point to break into the victims’ garage and install a GPS tracking device on their car, officials said. Federal investigators said the defendants also tried to lie to police about eBay's involvement and pretended to offer the company's assistance with the alleged harassment

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is facing a vote calling for him to stand down at the firm's annual shareholder meeting, being held today. It comes after calls for the CEO to stand down as chairman of the board and appoint a new successor. The move is unlikely to pass without Zuckerberg's agreement, however, as he controls 58 per cent of the vote.

Right before Congress passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act in December 2017, President Trump proclaimed: “It’ll be fantastic for the middle-income people and for jobs, most of all ... I think we could go to 4%, 5% or even 6% [GDP growth], ultimately. We are back. We are really going to start to rock.” A year later, it’s very clear that the tax cuts boosted gross domestic product and jobs a bit — and just for one year. Its effects are fading as U.S. GDP growth appears likely to weaken in 2019. The only thing that “rocked” were corporate...

At a company-wide town hall in early October, numerous Facebook employees got in line to speak about their experiences with sexual harassment. The company called the special town hall after head of policy Joel Kaplan caused an internal uproar for appearing at the congressional hearing for Judge Brett Kavanaugh. A young female employee was among those who got up to speak, addressing her comments directly to COO Sheryl Sandberg. "I was reticent to speak, Sheryl, because the pressure for us to act as though everything is fine and that we love working here is so great that it hurts," she...

During the Great Internet Sex War, that began in the United States during its Facebook Era, people were forced to stockpile their porn. Lube was bought by the drum and hidden in bunkers, alongside vibrators and air-gapped computers holding valuable troves of accurate, non judgemental sex information. Gimp suits were stored upright, oiled, and ready for doomsday's call. Explicit gifs became a black market commodity, and there were rumors of a Thunderdome ruled by cam girls. Every sexual identity, except the singular one deemed safe by the corporations, went into hiding. Fear prevented even the mere mention of sexual pleasure...

Updated 2 hours ago Startup airline OneJet did not resume ticket sales Monday as planned, and it’s unclear whether it ever will. The carrier announced Aug. 29 it was suspending all flights for eight weeks during an “operational transition,” but planned to resume ticket sales Oct. 1. As of Wednesday, the announcement was still posted to the carrier’s website , but when customers go to book a flight, the site says no flights are available to any destination. OneJet CEO Matt Maguire did not return calls seeking comment. Airport spokesman Bob Kerlik said airport officials have not received any information...

Corporate America is taking on the country’s most powerful gun lobby group. In the wake of the mass shooting in a Florida high school last week, companies are dropping their partnerships with the National Rifle Association (NRA), which touts 5 million members. According to a list compiled by ThinkProgress, an advocacy organization, there are at least 22 corporations, including car-rental companies and financial institutions that have been offering discounts to NRA members. As the #BoycottNRA movement picks up steam, some companies have cut ties.

President Trump grew frustrated with lawmakers Thursday in the Oval Office when they floated restoring protections for immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and African countries as part of a bipartisan immigration deal, according to two people briefed on the meeting. “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” Trump said, according to these people, referring to African countries and Haiti. He then suggested that the United States should instead bring more people from countries like Norway, whose prime minister he met yesterday. The comments left lawmakers taken aback, according to people familiar with their reactions. Sens....

The United States is a low-tax country. This is not a widely accepted point, granted. The share of Americans who say that their taxes are too high is at roughly 50 percent, a 15-year peak. Moreover, Republicans have sold their tax bill as an essential tax cut for America’s income-starved, tax-strangled families and businesses, promising to deliver $4,000 a year to the average family and huge boosts to corporate investment. “Today, America has one of the least competitive tax rates on planet Earth, 60 percent. Think of that, 60 percent higher than the average in the developed world. So our...

WASHINGTON—House Republicans, seeking the biggest transformation of the U.S. tax code in more than 30 years, aim to permanently chop the corporate tax rate from 35% to 20%, compress the number of individual income tax brackets, and repeal the taxes paid by large estates starting in 2024, according to a detailed summary of the plan reviewed by The Wall Street Journal. To partly offset that lost revenue, Republicans plan to curtail the deductions individuals take for state and local tax payments and the ones businesses get for the interest they pay on debt. But the plan being released Thursday morning...

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) on Saturday passed a resolution banning donations from corporate contributors whose areas of interest come into conflict with the DNC's stated values. The resolution, which was introduced by California member Christine Pelosi, passed unanimously. Pelosi is the daughter of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) Pelosi has introduced similar resolutions before that were shot down over concerns over which industries the measures would target. The move was celebrated on Twitter by progressive members of the Democratic Party who have been pushing to reduce corporate influence in the party.
