New light is being brought to a 46-year-old cold case commonly referred to as the “Yuba County Five.” Inspired by a series of true crime podcasts, author Tony Wright has dedicated the last four years to research, interviews, and documentation, compiling his findings into his new book “Things Aren’t Right: The Disappearance of the Yuba County Five.” “I came across the Yuba County case for the first time around 2018,” said Wright. “The story was just coming back into the news for whatever reason because of true crime and other unsolved mystery podcasting. It just seemed to catch fire and...

The Constitution does not require public schools to notify parents when their children adopt a gender identity at odds with their sex or receive parental consent "before using alternative names and pronouns" for their children, according to a federal court in California. U.S. District Judge John Mendez said he was observing judicial restraint by dismissing Aurora Regino's lawsuit alleging Chico Unified School District actively hide from Regino her fifth-grade daughter's stated identification as a boy. The district said it was bound by state law that gives students the sole choice to disclose. California may soon pose a new threat to...

California mother Aurora Regino is suing her child’s school district for allegedly transitioning her 11-year-old's gender in secret, claiming her rights as a parent were violated. Fox News’ Claudia Cowan gave an update on the case on "America’s Newsroom" Friday after Regino discovered her daughter, a fifth-grade student in the Chico Unified School District, was living a double life as a male named "Jaden" and was receiving school counseling on socially transitioning. She is now again identifying as a female. "They...

CHICO, Calif. (KRCR) — Jerry Bransford's barbershop on East Avenue is a one-man operation. He not only owns Fairview Barber Shop but is its only hairstylist. Until a week ago, he adhered to the government's edict that kept his business closed because of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). But Bransford could no longer afford to keep his doors closed, so he recharged his razor and returned to cutting hair. "It digs into your savings," said Bransford, who said his shop is busy around the clock with scraggly-haired clients. His shop has been visited by code enforcement which told him he's not...

CHICO, Calif. - Down Range in Chico has now attracted attention not once, not twice, but three times for its large billboards that sit along Highway 99. "It's pretty smart, to be honest with you," said Andrea Schauer. Schauer is a Redding resident who makes the Redding to Chico drive once a week for business or to shoot at the north Chico gun range. She is amused by the shops ads. "I'm always looking at their banners to see if they have a new one up," Schaeur said. In December, the gun range began an advertising campaign, using the symbol...

For nearly 25 years, Steven Crittenden has been condemned to Death Row at San Quentin State Prison for the gruesome 1987 murder of a prominent Chico couple in their home. Since the day of his arrest, Crittenden has looked for a way to escape, first briefly breaking out of the Butte County Jail prior to his trial, and through endless appeals since he was sent to prison. Crittenden, 45, is now closer to freedom than ever. And it has nothing to do with whether he killed the affable town doctor and his wife. A federal judge in Sacramento recently overturned...

For the first time since the leftists convinced the voters to move the local elections to November, the citizens have a chance to regain control of Chico. To begin with, the campaign against Measure A does not tell you is that the local elections were originally moved to November so that the leftists could gain the support of students who lived here only to go to college, but went home after completing each semester. This was done so that the wealthy fat-cat university professors could control the agenda of Chico's city council by stacking it with leftists socialists who would...

Acting as if they are Tea Party members of Butte County, Democrats have been going around posting fliers with racists images on them. It seems that those who are comfortable with national unemployment at double digits, Chico unemployment at 12.3%, unemployment for 18 & 19-year old's above 25%, inflation nearing double digit annually, and $5 gasoline prices that have made most families cancel summer vacation plans, are so afraid of the Tea Party that they want to disrupt it's rally being held in Chico's Downtown Plaza on Monday April 18th. It's the same old tactics being used by the...

Chico Supporter Stirs Controversy, Calls Emanuel “Judas”UPDATED 2/16/11 7:32 p.m. CHICAGO (CBS) – A key supporter of mayoral candidate Gery Chico has raised some eyebrows by saying something about Rahm Emanuel that the Emanuel campaign called blatantly ugly. Jim Sweeney, head of of Operating Engineers Local 150, was endorsing Chico Tuesday night at a labor rally when he called Emanuel a “Wall Street Judas.” **SNIP** Emanuel’s campaign didn’t like any of it. In a statement Wednesday, Emanuel – who is Jewish – said “I have absolute confidence that the people of the city of Chicago will see this comment for...

The two Appellate Court judges responsible for tossing Rahm Emanuel from the ballot in February's mayoral race both won their jobs after being anointed by a Chicago political power broker who openly supports an Emanuel opponent. Longtime Appellate Court Judges Thomas E. Hoffman and Shelvin Louise Marie Hall — who on Monday ruled that Emanuel's stay in Washington precludes him from running for mayor this year — were both judicial candidates slated for election by the Cook County Democratic Party judicial slating committee chaired by Ald. Edward Burke, 14th. Burke, one of Chicago's most powerful politicians, holds huge sway in...

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill - An Illinois man credited his Chihuahua's winter jacket with saving the small canine from a great horned owl attack. George Kalomiris said he was walking the 4-pound dog, Chico, in the early hours Wednesday in Crystal Lake when the owl swooped out of the darkness and tried to grab the canine, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Tuesday. However, Kalomiris said the owl could not get a good grip on Chico because of the dog's puffy winter jacket. He said the dog suffered scratches to his head and a puncture wound, but quickly recovered from the injuries. Rebecca...

Mayoral challenger Gery Chico charged Tuesday that Rahm Emanuel “sat on his hands, looked the other way and took the cash” when presented with an “Enron-style” scandal as a board member of home mortgage giant Freddie Mac. After leaving the administration of then President Bill Clinton and before running for Congress, Emanuel parlayed his political connections into an investment banking job in which he earned $16 million over three years. He also made at least $320,000 as a Freddie Mac director after he was given what Chico calls a “sweetheart appointment” by Clinton.

Last night was just the second time in my 22 years living in Chico that I suffered through an evening of listening to what the members of the Chico City Council had to say. If it weren't for Mark Sorensen's actually winning and being sworn in, I would not have been there last night. Now that it is over, I am glad I did go, not only because I was able to see a conservative get sworn in, but also because I was actually able to watch the way Socialists determine what is important for the citizens of Chico. I...

For now, the only members of Chico's city Council that have a clue are Mark Sorensen (L) just sworn in and Larry Wahl (R) who is leaving to assume a Butt County Supervisor seat he won. BROWNSVILLE — A 48-year-old man died Monday when his car spun on icy roads and slammed into a tree. Steven McCoy was driving a 1993 Jaguar north on LaPorte Road in Brownsville at about 6:44 p.m. Due to extremely cold weather, the road was icy and slippery. According to a California Highway Patrol press release, McCoy slid on ice as his vehicle exited a gradual curve south of Brownsville Cemetery. McCoy attempted to gain control by overcorrecting to the right. The vehicle rotated clockwise, slid off the right side of the road and crashed sideways into a large cedar tree....
