Larry Dever, the four-term Republican sheriff of Cochise County, has died in a one-vehicle crash near the northern Arizona town of Williams. He was 60. Dever's death was confirmed early Wednesday by the sheriff's department. The department declined to release details of the crash or his death. Two pedestrians were struck early Saturday morning, killing one and injuring the other. The accident occurred around 6 a.m. on the outer loop near Minors Lane. A Buick with three men inside fled their vehicle after striking a truck. Police do not know why they were fleeing the scene of the accident, but the decision proved fatal. The Flushing YMCA said four people were killed in an accident on the New York State Thruway at 7 a.m. en route to a swimming meet in Buffalo, N.Y. HARTFORD, Conn. -- Two elderly nuns were killed Wednesday and a third was critically injured when a van rear-ended their car on an Old Saybrook bridge, sending it crashing into a concrete barrier, police said. She was driving over a hill on a country road when another truck came towards her, driving in the middle of the road. In an effort to avoid him, she swerved, lost control of the truck and flipped it over. The other driver didn't stop. Sportscasters Marv Albert and Mike Fratello were injured early Thursday when their limousine hit a stalled truck, police said. Both Fratello, 55, and Albert, 60, sustained facial lacerations, and Albert sustained a concussion, state police spokesman Julian Castellanos said. The southbound limousine hit a disabled Dunkin Donuts truck on Interstate 295 in Hamilton Township, about five miles east of Trenton. The accident happened shortly before 3 a.m. The men were being held for observation at Helene Fuld Medical Center in Trenton.
