This Is Sexual Freedom?

Something snapped in me today, and I must vent or I will be tempted to run for the bottle. A little history. During the 60s, an entire generation threw off the shackles of previous generations and anointed itself as a new, enlightened generation. Its major tenet was sexual liberation or freedom as they liked to call it. On this very forum in recent days we have had some vivid examples of this freedom. To wit: The sad story of a little San Diego girl whose parents apparently were so intoxicated by sexual frenzy and God knows what else, they blindly ...

Need FReeper Help with Short Story on PC

I am planning to do my small part to root out political correctness from our culture by writing a short story. The idea has been germinating in my head for a while. All I can say about it is that a public library will be the focal point and that the story will be set in New England.I have nothing against public libraries per se, but have noticed in recent years that many of them have become havens for PC.Can any FReepers suggest a friendly print or on-line venue for such a story? Something tells me the New Yorker would ...

Condit Aide, Mike Lynch, Obfuscates with Wolf Blitzer

Tuned in late to Wolf Blitzer's dance with Mike Lynch, Modesto-based aide to Gary Condit, tonight. What an unimpresswive dude. Using Mark Geragos' talking points, he said that Condit has been fully cooperative with the D.C. police. Blasted media, especially FOX and "Rita Collins" for broadcasting stories from anonymous sources. (As if Bob Franken doesn't). Kept misprouncing Levys' name--came out levee instead of Lee-vy. Referred to Ch (hard ch as in chop)andra Levee, a couple of times;it almost appeared as if he was mispronouncing her name on purpose.

Hey Katie: Don't Give Up Your (To)Day Job, No Gravitas

We are in the midst of the summer dog days, and because I am cable-deprived in the kitchen and FOX-deprived in the rest of the house, I tuned into WPFN tonight, starring Katie Couric. For those who don't live in my area, WPFN stands for What Passes for News. I never dreamed that I would yearn, no beg, for Brian Williams to deliver the news to me.I think we learned last week that Brian's rendition of the news has meant ratings' losses for Mr. Welch's network. One wonders what the ratings will be after Katie gets through butchering the news ...

Has anyone noticed....?

On my afternoon break today, I tuned into C-SPAN II where the Senate was in session. I noticed that the Dems have lowered the volume of their voices. First up was Patrick Leahy who was criticizing Bush's cut-off for abortion funding overseas. He was practically whispering. Madame President was taking her maiden turn in the chair, and when she asked for a quorum roll call, she spoke in such a lowered voice, I wondered whether she had lost her voice. Quite a difference from her shrill appearance in NY last Saturday. While the roll call was going on, they replayed ...

DID I HEAR THIS CORRECTLY? BALLOTS TRANSFERRED TO FSC!

I apologize in advance if I am wrong about this, but while making dinner tonight, I was watching NBC Nightly News. David Bloom had the first report, and I could swear that I heard him say that 12,000 ballots had been transferred in secret from Saul's custody to the custody of the Florida Supreme Court.

ALERT: Here Is Something We Can Do: Important

Caught the tail end of a Boston-based talk show at around 9:30 tonight. Host's guest was Mike Jones, an executive with Republicans Abroad. He was talking from Austin. Said that it is imperative that we all contact our state election officials to absolutely make sure that all absentee ballots are counted. He said that a lot of states simply won't do it if counting them does not make a difference in the state's total. Jones said that Massachusetts, for example, has not yet counted the absentee ballots. He also said that California has 1.8 million absentee ballots, not 1 million. Folks, ...

What's Up With Tipper?

Was watching clips from Boston TV station tonight, showing Bush and Gore arrivals. Gore came bounding down the steps of his plane, acting like his pants were on fire. He was followed by his daughter dressed in jeans. On the most important night of his professional life, where was Tipper? Did he bound of the plane without her? Does that signal being just a tad bit TOO anxious? Or did Tipper just not bother to show up? Inquring minds want to know. Can any New England FReeper confirm what I saw?

Just Wondering...What if McCain Were the Nominee? (vanity)

Got to wondering the other day what the political buzz would be if, by some chance, John McCain were the Republican nominee.First, we'd have had the cancer scare. Remember Paul Tsongas? McCain would be down by 10 points on that issue alone. We all speculated last winter about the liberal press's lap dog approach to McCain during the primaries that would suddenly do a 180 if McCain were the actual nominee. What dirt would be coming out now? How many veiled references to the Senator's mental state would we be hearing? Now that it's for real, how many aspersions would be ...

Massachusetts' Biggest Case of Child Molestation Breaks Wide Open Today

Leading the early news shows on all Boston channels this evening was an arrest of a man who may end up being the state's (the country's?) most prolific child abuser. Earlier in the week, the guy had been thought to be responsible for indecent sexual acts against 2 boys. But tonight, the whole truth came pouring out of the mouth of the Essex County DA, Kevin Burke. The suspect is a sandy-haired, pleasant looking, 28-year-old CCD worker in a Catholic church in Middleton, MA. He also ran a YMCA camp. Authorities think he may have molested up to 250 boys. Apparently, ...

Maine Legislators Vote to Restrict New Drivers' Freedoms

Heard during 10:00 AM EST radio news (NBC) that the Maine legislature has voted for (or is considering) a bill to forbid new teenage drivers from having anyone in their car, except their immediate family, for 90 days after receipt of a license. This follows the recent ruling to change place names containing the word "squaw" and, of course, Gov. King's plan to give computers to all 7th graders in the state. As if the police had nothing better to do.
This Votin' Thing Might be an Epidemic

Just want to share with Freepers my observations from municipal elections in New Hampshire today.Today was the day for municipal elections all across the state. In my small town the voting lines were enormous. There were 70, count 'em, 70 articles to vote upon plus election of various town officials. There was a 10 minute wait just to sign in. Every voting booth was occupied when I went at around 3:00 pm. There was another 10 minute wait just to put the ballot through the scanner. When I drove by the polling place at 5 pm, the lines were even ...

Did McCain Lie Under Oath? (My Title) (Long read)

A decade ago, Senator John McCain's role in the most politically corrosive episode of the $150 billion savings and loan debacle threatened to end a political career that now holds some promise of concluding instead with a McCain presidency. Back then, McCain said the Keating Five scandal was a more nightmarish experience than his years in a North Vietnamese prison camp. What a difference a decade makes: One mischievous commentator recently suggested that the Keating Five was a rock group. And nowadays, McCain dismisses the tawdry Senate scandal as a mere asterisk in his career, in hopes the electorate will ...

AlGore Anoints Bush

If anyone was watching C-SPAN this evening, one would have witnessed a live telecast of some Democrat function in New Hampshire, featuring AlGore and Bradley. During his speech, AlGore stated that the water and air in Texas ranks number one in the country for pollution.Looks like Al has chosen his opponent. I have no way of knowing whether his accusation is true, but it's telling that The Wooden One did not choose Arizona, Maryland, or New Jersey. If looked real carefully, one would have George Stepalloverus in the audience tonight.
