Proposition 50 passed in California, making it almost certain that the Democrats will pick up 4 or 5 seats in Congress just from California. If they get a majority in the House in the Nov. 2026 elections, expect the first order of business in January 2027 to be the impeachment of President Trump. Maybe blowing up drug boats without due process will be one of the charges.

One of the pundits on TV last night thought that the shutdown hurt the Republicans. We know that Schumer is to blame but the average voter who watches only the mainstream news may think it is the Republicans’ fault. Of course Virginia is affected more than other states because of the large number of federal employees in the DC suburbs.

When I lived in Iowa a long time ago, the President of the University of Iowa announced his goal of having 8% black students at the University of Iowa. Currently Iowa is about 4% black but I think it was only about 2% black at that time. He probably foresaw luring black students from other states to Iowa in order to meet that quota. I don’t know what the current ethnic breakdown at the University of Iowa is.

If the students who don’t get accepted into a selective college go instead to one where most of the students have SAT or ACT scores similar to theirs, they have a better chance of doing well and graduating. I teach at a non-selective college and some of my best students this term are black students.

You are right, your meaning should be obvious...although there could be a few who think none of the Republican Presidents meet your standards. But the article just talks about present-day Democrats and doesn't discuss the Democrat Presidents of living memory.

Going back to the pre-JFK period, I would allow Polk, Cleveland and maybe a few other Democrat Presidents to be pro-America. But I'm an easy grader.

Well, he’s not wrong. The Constitution is more than 100 years old. He could have added that the Magna Carta is, like, over 100 years old while he was at it.

Has the mainstream media continued their blackout of this story? Does any American who doesn’t watch Fox or OANN or read FreeRepublic even know about this story? (I think some of the Republicans targeted had a press conference which was covered by C-SPAN...but how many people would have watched tht?)

St. Francis was much smarter. He preached to animals and birds which were unlikely to inflict life-threatening injuries.

Does Sid Caesar count? Of course probably very few US kids today know who he was.

There is a lot to know about Julius Caesar. Maybe they should pick an easier Caesar, like Tervel, the Bulgar khan named a Caesar by the emperor Justinian II.
