I’d start by taking a weekend camping trip out of your car. Bring several freeze dried meals meant for camping/hiking and a way to boil water. Portable generators have many uses other than a backup to grid power. They’re used on almost every jobsite to run power tools, air compressors, lighting, pumps, fans. It is simply infeasible to ban the use of common construction tools.

A couple of decades ago the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission added crossbows as legal archery tackle for deer.
