TRADITIONALLY, there has been one principle with which men have been able to judge lawmaking since the advent of liberalism (in the original sense of that word). It was, the principle enshrined in the American constitution and emulated, in part or in whole, by all nations seeking to follow America's revolutionary lead. It was the principle that guided men like William Graham Sumner, Stephen J. Field and Herbert Spencer in their respective intellectual arenas. It was a principle simultaneously legal, political and philosophic-the principle of liberty. Although still the best and only real guide to such subsidiary concepts as justice ...

In Romans 13, we are instructed to be subject to the state: 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 13:2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. The reason we must be subject to the state is 1)we have been commanded to be so, and 2)we are not of this world. We have never been commanded to be rulers, but subjects and servants. As such we need to obey ...

I was watching South Park Wednesday night; they were bashing the great organization known as NAMBLA, and it got me to thinking: Should we start a NAMBLA chapter here at FR? That is North American Males Bashing Leftists @ssholes. What do you think?

Think not that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fufil.-Matt 5:17 Man cannot keep the law, because we are all sinners(Rom. 3:23). The law exists to show mankind, particularly Israel, its sinfulness and need for redemption(Rom. 3:20), and the punsihment for sin is death(Gen. 2:17), so to for breaking the law. The law also shows that we can only be redeemed with a blood sacrifice. In this, the law points to Christ as that lamb brought before the slaughter(Isaiah 53:7) to atone for our sins(Exodus 12:5,7,13), a perfect ...

Inspired by the founders of the Liberal International who fifty years ago launched the Liberal Manifesto, 475 Liberals from every continent have returned to Oxford on 2730 November 1997 to consider Liberal responses to the challenges and opportunities that emerge on the threshold of a new millennium. Over the past 50 years, substantial progress has been made in establishing open societies based upon political and economic liberty. However, there is still a long way to go. New generations have to define liberal priorities in the face of new opportunities and new dangers. There remain many challenges to Liberalism: from the ...

After viewing the several threads about Lincoln and the War Between the States, I have one thing to say: Quit romanticizing the leaders of this tragedy. Too often we idolize our past leaders and can no longer look at them rationally. This needs to stop. We treat Presidents like gods, when they were men just as flawed as we are. None of them were perfect, although they may have done some good things, such as founding this nation. So, quit romanticizing history.

Good evening folks. Would you like some Cocaine, LSD, PCP, Uppers, Downers or other Hallucinogens? Is this the greeting of a fellow partier from the 1960s? No it's what the Libertarians have in mind for your brave new world. You and your children have just been seated in your favorite restaurant. "Welcome to the realization of the true conservative's dreams from the 60s and 70s." Yes the flower children of the 60s and 70s have found new soul mates in the Libertarian ranks, and according to them, they are the true conservatives. Now all you fascist pigs out there beware, ...

Among students of intellectual history, the revolutions in the United States (1776), France (1789), and Russia (1917) attract most interest as being the result and cause of ideas: in America the liberalism of Thomas Paine and the later Federalists, in France the turbulent combination of the liberalism of Voltaire and Montesquieu with the populism of Rousseau, and in Russia the pathbreaking implementation of Marxism. Earlier revolutions in the Netherlands and in England are often passed over. The first English "revolution," following the Civil War of 1641-1646, was a remarkable event for the ideas which led up to it, and which ...

From the standpoint of Texas politics, two of the most powerful positions are the Speaker of the House and the Lieutenant Governor. The Governorship is mainly a position for political stair stepping(either up or down), and it would be wise, if the Republican party of Texas focussed more on getting more seats in the HOuse and Senate to secure the positions of Speaker and Lt. Governor. The office of Governor should remain a secondary concern to the main goal of increasing Republican seats in the Legislature. At least, that's my opinion. If a Republican gov gets in, then that is ...

Here is a llink to the Anti-Smoking Nazi Bill 290

Efforts to ban smoking aren't just a virtuous attempt to protect our health and make things smell good, it is a terrifying usurpation of individual liberty and Constitutional rights. Every step the opponents of smoking take and every victory they win only emboldens the smoking police to go even further. How far will they go? First the work place was targeted, sending more than fifty million smokers out into the cold for a quick puff. Next were bars and restaurants airports and hotels. Many outside activities have also taken up the ban. Smokers have had to retreat to the point ...

The Declaration of Independence declared George III to a tyrant for several reasons, but one was, "He has abdicated government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us." Today, a similarly tyrannical government has refused to protect the rights of the people and has gone so far as to declare war on them. The United States government is waging war on us and has stolen our powers in order to do it. In America, we readily acknowledge that every individual has equal right to life, liberty, and possessions. However, we are also willing to deny ...
