Nano Spot We're all saved! By Mark Wendman: Wednesday 09 August 2006, 13:46 A SIGNIFICANT advance that might have potential to reverse global warming has been developed, but yet to be commercialised on a large scale. The technology provides a biochemical means to safely scrub CO2 from concentrated sources of the gas, like smokestacks of numerous types. The advance was enabled by isolation of the enzyme in animals that removes Carbon Dioxide from blood to permit exhaling CO2 gas. Application of a spot of gene cloning can make this technology fix commercially practical. The advance has been achieved in partnership...
• Does fusion scientist 'hold the secret'?

He was ballyhooed and then discredited and then largely forgotten. But cold fusion pioneer Dr. Martin Fleischmann still holds the secret to a cheap energy source for the world, says a California company that plans to produce prototypes of a cold fusion-powered home heater, with Fleischmann as "senior scientific adviser." The announcement came on the 17th anniversary of the day that Fleischmann, then a chemistry professor at the University of Utah, and his colleague B. Stanley Pons stunned the scientific world with news that they had discovered a room-temperature way to create nuclear fusion. The announcement immediately led to predictions...

The Baptist Version of The Book of Mormon Protestant Doctrines within the Book of Mormon by Lynn Ridenhour, Southern Baptist Minister I’m a licensed Southern Baptist minister and I embrace the Book of Mormon. That is, I believe the truths recorded in it. No, I’m not a convert to the Mormon faith, nor am I a member of any particular "spin-off" restoration group such as the RLDS (Reorganized Latter-day Saints), Hedrikites, or Strangites. I’m still a Baptist minister. To be exact, I’m "charismatic Baptist." That is, I still embrace the "born again" experience. I still believe you’re saved by grace....

I just got a call from someone on behalf of the local power company. The guy wanted to let me know that we now have options for how our power is generated. He proceeded to say that most of our current power comes from old technologies like coal and nuclear and "we all know how bad that is for the environment." At that point I interrupted him and said nuclear was an excellent choice for the environment. He admitted it is a clean source of energy but that disposing of nuclear waste is a problem. I told him that it...

Gardner, All photos by David Hawley, Copyright 2002The boat, that once carried some members of the Willie Handcart company, sank and was found 130 years later, buried 45 feet deep in a field.note: click on pictures to enlargeThe "Big Muddy." The Missouri River. Some have said it's too thick to drink, too thin to plow. There's a reason for that: the fine silt of the glacier-swept prairie land is continually floating through the river water, which flows, hungrily devouring its own banks, as well as any obstacles in its path. The obstacles include fields, farms, houses,...

Meridian ^ | July 2002 | Anne Bradshaw
Award Winning British LDS Photographer, Reg Wilkins: His Conversion Story by Anne Bradshaw Described as nothing short of miraculous, Reg Wilkins? conversion began with one ripple involving his brother - that ripple has never stopped touching the lives of others. On a warm June day in 1967, Reg's younger brother, twenty-two year old Victor Wilkins, knowing nothing about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was taking photographs as he walked through London's famous Hyde Park. Reg tells the story. ?As Victor gazed at the many great men of history carved in stone on the Park's magnificent Albert Memorial,...

Saw this recent publication by the Idaho Tourism Board on another site. It's a document that is given out to all who come to visit the Gem State to help you understand the locals. 1. That slope-shouldered farm boy did more work before breakfast than you do all week at the gym. 2. It's called a 'gravel road.' No matter how slow you drive, you're going to get dust on your Navigator. I have a four wheel drive because I need it. Drive it or get it out of the way. 3. We all started hunting and fishing when we...

HILLSBORO -- It is a small statue, but it has caused a big ruckus. Parents of some students at Jackson Elementary School say they are upset that its Parent Teacher Association spent $2,500 on a bronze statue honoring its long-serving principal. The money was raised by students and parents at one of the Hillsboro School District's more affluent schools, primarily through the sale of gift wrap and cookie dough, among other fund-raisers. PTA board members say the statue -- a 22-inch bronze depicting a boy wearing a cape and goggles standing on a paper airplane -- promotes the organization's commitment ...

Dave Kopel Ripe for Genocide A critical look at sub-Saharan Africa. Mr. Kopel, Dr. Paul Gallant, & Dr. Joanne Eisen of the Independence Institute February 13, 2001 11:10 a.m. It's not often that America's mainstream media is willing to talk about the failure of government in sub-Saharan Africa. But that was exactly the subject of a segment on 60 Minutes which aired on January 21, 2001. The rapidly deteriorating situation in Zimbabwe provided provocative news filler. But while the report touched on the main points of current events there, the producer failed to recognize that the segment was ...

Is the report card issued by a Colorado group, grading Utah's ski areas on environmental policies, a "fair measure" or a "farce." Wednesday, Ski Area Citizens Coalition, headquartered in Colorado, released its environmental report cards on more than 50 of the country's ski areas, Utah's included. A member of the coalition is Utah's Save Our Canyons. Under the group's grading system, Sundance was awarded an "A," while Snowbasin, The Canyons and Deer Valley all received failing marks. Alta and Park City were given "Bs," while Brian Head, Brighton, Snowbird and Solitude were given "Ds." Utah ski areas countered that ...

The Oregonian | 9/3/00 | Bill Graves
Not ready for primary time By Bill Graves Marcos Aguilar smiles with relief as he watches his daughter, Gabriela, cheerfully sing, play and cut out colored animals in kindergarten at William Walker Elementary School in Beaverton. Three days earlier, the shy 5-year-old was in tears, too frightened to let go of his hand. She'd never been to preshool, never been in a classroom. That's why the school invited her and nine other kindergartners to start school a week early. Thanks to the jump start, Gabriela's first official day of school promises to be exciting rather than traumatic. Not all ...
• If you could get someone to read just one article about Janet Reno, what would it be?

I ran into someone today who really likes Janet Reno and actually approves of what she did to Elian. He does not like Clinton or anyone else in his administration, just Reno. If you could get this person to read just one damning article about Reno and her ongoing obstruction of justice, which one would it be? P.S. He's quite reasonable, just uninformed because he gets his news from the usual liberal outlets.
• Football or your country? (vanity)

For those of you who follow football, doesn't it seem hypocritical of those in San Francisco who are up in arms about SF signing Lawrence Phillips because of his checkered past? He is guilty of a couple cases of domestic violence against women, and I am in complete agreement he should have been punished. But, ... what he did is no worse than what Clinton did to Juanita and the city of SF as a majority seems to support Clinton 100%. I guess the character of your football team is more important than that of your president/country.
