Puppy withdrawn from auction amid breeder’s concerns By Ruth Ann Replogle Lifestyles Editor Some people are not sitting pretty with Abounding Grace Biblical Counseling Ministries’ original plan to auction a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy during its annual Sitting Pretty fund-raiser. Pet lovers and dog breeders expressed concerns following a News & Eagle article about the fund-raiser in Wednesday’s paper. Abounding Grace biblical counselor Julie Davis and Sitting Pretty organizer Judy Vickers received many calls Wednesday and Thursday from people who considered it unethical to auction a puppy. News & Eagle readers outraged by the situation also posted comments online,...

<p>"WASHINGTON, Sept. 8 - As New Orleans descended into chaos last week and Louisiana's governor asked for 40,000 soldiers, President Bush's senior advisers debated whether the president should speed the arrival of active-duty troops by seizing control of the hurricane relief mission from the governor.</p>
  • Prayer Request From Iraq

    01/23/2005 11:17:03 PM PST · by sissyjane · 8 replies · 230+ views
<p>As a transportation battalion, my unit will be delivering the voting machines and the ballots to villages and cities throughout Iraq during the upcoming elections. (January 30/31) Our convoys are prime targets for the insurgents because they do not want the equipment to arrive at the polling stations nor do they want the local Iraqi citizens to have the chance to vote; timely delivery must occur so that the elections occur. Encourage your friends and family members and those within our churches to pray specifically for the electoral process. Historically, the previous totalitarian regime would not allow individual citizens to vote. Democracy will not be realized in Iraq if intelligent and competent officials are not elected to those strategic leadership positions within the emerging government; freedom will not have an opportunity to ring throughout this country if the voting process fails. Announce this prayer request to your contacts throughout your churches, neighborhoods, and places of business. Those with leadership roles within the local church post this message in as many newsletters and bulletins as possible. There is unlimited potential for God's presence in this process but if we do not pray then our enemy will prevail (See Ephesians 6:10-17) A prayer vigil prior to the end of the month may be an innovative opportunity for those within your sphere of influence to pray. This is a political battle that needs spiritual intervention. A powerful story about God's intervention in the lives of David's mighty men is recorded in 2 Samuel 23:8-33. David and his warriors were victorious because of God's intervention. We want to overcome those who would stand in the way of freedom. David's mighty men triumphed over incredible odds and stood their ground and were victorious over the enemies of Israel. (Iraqi insurgents' vs God's praying people). They don't stand a chance.</p>

    >>From Wednesday's edition of the New York Times: Michael D. McCurry, a former press secretary to President Bill Clinton who recently signed on as an adviser to Mr. Kerry, told reporters traveling with Mr. Kerry that the campaign was trying to determine who in its ranks had been in contact with Mr. Burkett. Mr. McCurry said that Mr. Lockhart had approached Mary Beth Cahill, Mr. Kerry's campaign manager, in the last few days to tell her that he had had a brief telephone conversation with Mr. Burkett. Ms. Cahill, he said, told Mr. Kerry, who did not think anything needed...

"MISSING" [Rod Dreher] CNN is reporting that gravediggers in Beslan have been told to prepare 600 graves today, and to be ready to dig even more in the next few days. Six hundred graves, most of them for little children. In Beslan, parents are posting makeshift "missing" posters around the village, just like New Yorkers did after 9/11. It is breathtaking to see that gesture repeated again, so soon. Is it going to have to happen here before Americans wake up to the true nature of the threat posed by Islamic extremism? I'm afraid so, yes.

THE FROZEN TUNDRA OF... LAMBERT FIELD? [08/26 08:05 PM] Steve Chaggaris of CBS News reports: On Wednesday, Kerry made his third visit to Green Bay, Wis., this year and made it a point to focus on the main thing the city revolves around: football and the Green Bay Packers... As he was taking questions from the audience, he referred to the legendary Packers stadium, Lambeau Field (which has been called that for 39 years) as "Lambert Field." If the voters catch wind of that gaffe, it could take Kerry another three visits to Green Bay to make up for it....

(08-24) 16:45 PDT NEW YORK (AP) -- After weeks of charge and countercharge in the presidential campaign, comedian Jon Stewart tried Tuesday to get to the bottom of the debate over Democrat John Kerry's military service in Vietnam. "I watch a lot of the cable news shows, so I understand that you were never in Vietnam," asked Stewart, host of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show." "That's what I understand, too, but I'm trying to find out what happened," Kerry joked. A group of Vietnam veterans has accused Kerry, in public statements and in television commercials, of exaggerating his actions during...
