That’s the ticket! Build some public restrooms on the Down.
That way the gays won’t get leaves and gorse prickles all over their sticky parts.

    Hanson nails it again!

This article is good enough that McLame should use it as a speech, and spread this word.

I have the strangest feeling that the poll numbers are bogus.

At least half of that 58% is female votes. They could care less about gay men and whether or not they’re in the military.

Openly gay men cut their hair regularly, so why not let them serve?

Because it makes straight soldiers uncomfortable? Sorry, that’s their problem.

Hey! Our libs try to do this all the time. Couple months’ back, there were a flurry of editorials and self-appointed-expert opinions that proclaimed that 20% of the peeps in US prisons now, could be released to community service, etc.

These writings never once mentioned that the folks in prison earned their way there via multiple prior offenses (not to mention the heavy-duty felonies) such as burglary, shoplifting, and the like. The writers wrote as if these folks were just unfortunate first-timers.

I think CA first passed a three-strikes sentencing law, and it was aimed at incarcerating those folks who never wised up after being convictred of two felonies. There was a case that raised a lot of discussion after a guy got a felony prison sentence for robbing a kid of a piece of pizza.

Now, if you think that sentence was excessive, how many more crimes would you commit if you had been caught and convicted only one time? No more, because you’re smart, right. Three felonies, under the original three-strikes law, pretty much defined a perp as a “habitual criminal”, and the extra sentencing was called a “bitch” (habitual, see?)

But the program, picked up by several states, soon got watered down to violent crimes only, to avoid sending pizza thieves on long trips to prison. (Even that case was a violent felony, however, because the perp “robbed” the victim to take the pizza. Don’t know if the perp had a weapon or not.)

IMO, the British panel is just a lib group whose ideas got a little too much publicity. The court will not take their advice, in no small part because the citizens, having read the article, will voice strong opinion.

I don’t get it with the British citizens having to give up owning firearms. But that’s another topic, and I know nothing of the matter.

OMG!!! The G-8 council “urged” Iran to discontinue nuclear development. Iran’s in big trouble now!

How about this ultimatum?: Iran completely bares its nuke program by a date certain, or an attack may come any time thereafter.

“Overkill” usually suggests a deep personal hatred by the perp for the victim. IOW, not a stranger to the victim.

Homosexual or some other type of love triangle-type situation are logical assumptions.

Charlatan. I’ve been thinking that term for some time. Now that you’ve used it (and current news supports its use), the word looks absolutely perfect here in FR.

I believe you’re right, prole, about Obama’s ability to ignore those who have already donated to his campaign.

He’s got all the money he needs, now he’s working for votes and seems willing to say anything to appeal to the folks in front of him.

A huge character flaw, and the media has ahold of it. It should haunt Obama throughout the rest of his campaign if he continues to flip-flop.

Melman calling the Bush administration “weak” is either intentionally misleading (to further mask US/Israeli plans on Iran), or it’s plain stupid.

The Bush admin may have trouble defending its overall success, but it definitely is not weak.

Ask al-Qaeda. Ask the insurgents in Iraq. (Which, by the way, Mr. Melman, is totally beneficial to Israel.) US forces have virtually cleared Iraq of organized insurgency, and by the toughest house-to-house fighting, and not by fire-bombing the countryside, which would have been much cheaper in US lives, time, cost, etc.

After writing this, I conclude that Melman is being disengenous to try to make his point, which equals LAMENESS.

    Superb, John.

Harkin lied about his Vietnam record and played it up when he was a dim candidate for pres? Now he says McLame’s war record is no qualification for pres?

Harkin, therefore, is a liar, for inflating his war record for political gain, and a hypocrite, for saying that McLame’s true record is worthless for pres., but his bogus record was a big plus. (Until he was found out, I guess.)

Harkin has always been a left-wing partisan dim, but not aggressive enough or smart enough to make himself a constant pain in the a$$.

His credibility is now, AFAIC, completely shot to hell.

I still disagree. Obviously, there is more than one point of view.

The Israeli attack was repulsed, in some part, because Hezbollah had prepared Lebanon’s border with Israel with rocket launchers set inside civilian properties, many firing rockets through holes in rooftops. The Hez defense was spread very widely, and hiding within civilian neighborhoods, kind of like what we went through in Iraq.
It’s no wonder to me why an Israeli ground attack was slowed.

Besides, what kind of victory were the Israelis pursuing?
Conquer Lebanon? Wipe out every living human being in Southern Lebanon? That’s what they would have had to do to “win” over Hezbollah.

Destroying Beirut was a perfect hammer to bludgeon Hezbollah, because Hez is so entrenched into Lebanon that bombing Beirut hurt them a lot, for several reasons.

I must admit that I don’t understand the “prisoner swap”, except to take it at face value, reserving some doubt that it may have a connection to something else not yet public.

Here’s an anology of how I see the war: Hez came into Israel and kicked it in the shins. Israel retaliated and Hez got its face broke. I specifically recall the media describing it that way.

I understand that many Israelis think it was a poor effort against Hez, but I don’t see how the war can be described as a win for Hez, and I wonder if this is driven inside Israel by the general disgust over Olmert

My take is that Jacoby’s article is FOS!

Does no one remember what the Israeli Air Force did to Beirut? My recollection is that outside influences stepped in and helped negotiate a cease fire, mostly because downtown Beirut, having just been rebuilt for the tenth time, was turning to rubble every day as the war continued.

I never did understand why about half of the Israelis felt they had “lost” that war. What could have happened that would have made them happy?

I don’t always get it right, but that’s my view.

Universities that utilize this system will see the program fail, just as the Affirm. Action enrollment system failed.....there was a very high percentage of those admitted via lower standards flunking out of college, because their basic education was so sub-par that university work was beyond their capabilities.

So, IMHO, Wake Forest’s efforts will be unsuccessful in attaining the results it hopes for. The article doesn’t say, but I wonder if the student applicant’s race will be part of the process.

Affirm. Action did turn out many blacks that did take advantage of the opportunities and attain high-level jobs.

Assuming Wake Forest (et al) doesn’t lower it’s standards for academic class results (grades), it will be paying a ton for scholarships for students who can’t cut it in college, and will flunk out or quit on their own because they can’t compete.

During a dim primary debate, Nobama was the second person asked about reparations for blacks.

He did his usual evasion by saying something like he would use reparations to improve schools, etc, in areas where students weren’t learning. A vague and indirect answer, and, guess what?

AFAIK, the black reparations question has never been asked of him again! This question should be on the article’s list.

Obama must be pinned down on this question, because, either way, he loses votes from whites if he supports black reparations, or from blacks if he says he doesn’t, since they are expecting reparations from Obama if he is elected.

A FUBAR that should NEVER have happened.

Where there’s a poor security location, the prisoners are chained together, and no one gets unlocked until they’re all in a secure place indoors, leg shackles or not. This has been a security issue for some time. Rank stupidity that it wasn’t handled before this. But I guess they’re going to talk about it some more, as per the article. /s
