Prediction: The Duke and Duchess of Edwards

[Snip] That pesky press... straining at the bit under the pressures of non-restrained press outlets from "foreign countries" [read non-MSM media these days]...In the end that pesky press just had to get in the loop and spoil a perfectly good clandestine affair.

ONLY HIS HAIR DRESSER KNOWS FOR SURE!

The mainstream media's reaction to the National Enquirer's reports on John Edwards' "love child" scandal has been reminiscent of the Soviet press. Edwards' name has simply been completely whitewashed out of the news. Say, why isn't anyone talking about John Edwards for vice president anymore? No, seriously –- hey! Why are we going to a commercial break?

A military jury gave Osama bin Laden's driver a stunningly lenient sentence on Thursday, making him eligible for release in just five months despite the prosecutors' request for a sentence tough enough to frighten terrorists around the globe.

[Snip]...Seattle became on Monday one of the first major American cities to discourage the use of paper and plastic shopping bags by requiring grocery, drug and convenience stores to charge 20 cents per bag. In a related action, the City Council also banned plastic foam food and drink containers. Both laws will go into effect Jan. 1.

Obama: where are the fact-checkers?

Watching the News: Saying the Obvious

The difference between a politician and a statesman is the breadth of their horizons. But have we ever seen people with horizons as limited as our modern Congress? Of course their ratings are low – we return their judgment of us. They think we have no sense of deferred gratification; they think we are children – and not very bright, not very disciplined children at that. We return the compliment.

The Two Obamas

God, Republicans are saps. They think that they’re running against some academic liberal who wouldn’t wear flag pins on his lapel, whose wife isn’t proud of America and who went to some liberationist church where the pastor damned his own country. They think they’re running against some naïve university-town dreamer, the second coming of Adlai Stevenson.rsations But as recent weeks have made clear, Barack Obama is the most split-personality politician in the country today...

On the run? Count it as time served, convicts told

Prisoners who go on the run could have the time cut from their sentence, internal Government papers revealed last night. Convicts will be able to count both the day they absconded and the day they were caught as time spent behind bars. A criminal could walk out of an open jail in the morning and hand himself in the next day, and both days would count as time served. The Tories accused the Government of 'rewarding bad behaviour'.

Obama Threatens to 'Bring a Gun': What If McCain Had Done Same?

Hillary Clinton's mention of RFK's assassination was the final nail in the coffin of her candidacy. Along similar lines, can you imagine the howls of MSM outrage if John McCain were to suggest that he might "bring a gun" to his campaign against Barack Obama? Yet Obama has made just such a statement. Expect the liberal media to . . . yawn.

With Russert Not Even Buried the Kossacks Ghoul Up for Olbermann

[ Snip ]... I'll bet deep in the heart of that skanky pants weasel Olbermann he's plotting how he can swing into Russert's shoes when he's not worthy to lick them. There will probably be some crocodile tears tonight and then a casual couple of 'chance' meetings with NBC execs just after the funeral. Then he'll get his agent to call and raise the issue. Maybe even get some bloggers to start a campaign.... And there will be nobody at NBC to say, 'How dare you, sir? Apologize, sir!' Yes, it will be Countdown time for Keith."

Freedom of Speech, Religion Ushered Out in Colorado

You might have heard about the Colorado "Restroom Chaos" law signed by Governor Bill Ritter a couple of weeks ago. It allows men who "think" they're women or "feel" like women to use the ladies restrooms and locker rooms. But apparently the law had some more bad stuff in the fine print: politically incorrect Biblical truth has been outlawed in Colorado outside the walls of the church.

Distracting Miss Daisy - Stop signs and speed limits endanger Americans

A Traffic Free-for-All?

There is a stretch of North Glebe Road, in Arlington, Virginia, that epitomizes the American approach to road safety. It’s a sloping curve, beginning on a four-lane divided highway and running down to Chain Bridge, on the Potomac River. Most drivers, absent a speed limit, would probably take the curve at 30 or 35 mph in good weather. But it has a 25-mph speed limit, vigorously enforced. As you approach the curve, a sign with flashing lights suggests slowing further, to 15 mph. A little later, another sign makes the same suggestion. Great! the neighborhood’s more cautious residents might think....
