1 1/2 years for private pilot training is about a year to long, it only takes 6 months for most.
While I was getting my flight instruction (mid '70s) there was a perpetual student at the flight school. He was a local TV personality. Kept taking lessons and talking on air about the glories of flying. I can't remember what the hang up was but something like freezing up when trying to land. I got my private SEL license in about 6 months.
A former in-law was an instructor in the NYC area. Had problems and set down in the water. Student was killed, he survived. He was not a good pilot and eventually became unemployable.
Makes me wonder whatever happened to the affluent Brookine, MA couple that took in a migrant family. That was a couple of years ago. Last I heard, the husband was doing their yard work and the wife was keeping house. Isn’t that sort of like slavery?
For many years the AAAS along with the ACS and APS have been descending into the hull-crushing abyss of woketardian, DEI (and, more recently, TDS) insanity.
When I was in college my room mates and I would fill weather balloons with stove gas (methane) and air and launch them at night from the apartment roof with a fuse attached. They’d drift over the city and then explode. Lotsa fun.
Similar a couple of years ago in a Maine midcoast town. Fellow went into the crawl space under his home and used a blow torch to thaw a pipe. He left to go to work and forgot the torch was on. His wife woke to smoke filling the house. Total loss.
5 years ago I traded my 2008 car for a 2019. Every now and then a warning will pop up asking me if I need to have some coffee (well, I always like coffee). It will do it if I’m avoiding something, going through a construction area or driving on a rural road where there’s no other traffic. I can imagine my car deciding to shut off when the warning appears. Then I guess I’d have time for coffee.
