The resignation has to be accepted by the agency--example, Department of the Navy (DON), possible down at the systems command level. And, there may be additional exemptions added (those who can not defer resign, and if they have, the resignation not be approved).

I sent my email Thursday, received a "received" response Friday evening.
Based on what I have seen as far as other agencies adding "exemptions", I fully expect mine to be rejected, but I replied to the email/program nonetheless.

I could have taken a nap? The heck? I was doing this remote thing wrong all along.

My job is not data entry, but it is such that commuting into the office isn't necessary (IMO).

I don't see clients/customers--everything is done via Teams, email, support tracking applications, phone. I am on-line at about 0500, work my 9 hours plus the bonus work that I don't count for in my timecard--whatever I see needing attention to before I turn out the lights at 8 pm, or on the weekends...not to mention, I have a work phone, because I am expected to be available if an application goes down.

I don't refuse to go back--working from home was good while it lasted and allowed me to provide more support to our associates/customers in the different time zones, because I have/had the flexibility. But, It is what it is!

We visited Hot Springs Village last August..it was beautiful there. Bought a house in December—which I have yet to see in person. But the bonus is, my husband had to do all the unpacking of boxes. Looking forward to it, whenever I get there.

Department of the Navy--voluntary retirement eligible next month. Also currently 100% remote. No issues going into the office--I am within the 50 mile radius--but come June, I am moving to our retirement home in Arkansas. My husband is already there. Before the RTW directive, I had planned on remote working from my home in Arkansas (with the knowledge AND direction from HR that my locality pay WILL go down once I move--no biggie). But, if there is no exception for remote workers, then I'll reply "Resign", do turnover/transition, and move earlier, and retire in September.

We should find out more next week, especially in regards to remote working and the "compelling reasons" (I don't think "because I want to move out of CA" is compelling enough) to allow continued remote work. The verbiage in the memo says that is up to the agency and the supervisor, so...

I am fortunate in that I am close enough to retirement that either way, it doesn't REALLY impact me--but I am concerned that is I reply "Resign" and something about this directive goes south, that it will mess up my retirement somehow.

Yes. I could turn around on 01 OCT (if my resignation is accepted) and work for the current contractor that supports my program. 100% remote, and a higher salary. If I wanted or needed to continue working....and/or if asked to do so. My dad (was a tech writer for Navy weapons systems for years) did this after he retired civil service...started working for a defense contractor.

Same! 30 plus years DON. I had been planning on going out next month at 62, but then we bought a retirement home outside California last month. I am still at our California home, working, and have no issues going into the office once the logistics are figured out.

I had hoped my remote agreement would tide me over til the end of the year, when I would retire, allowing me to work remotely from our new home in Arkansas starting in June after we put the CA house on the market.

When President Trump announced the return to work policy last week, I figured..well, it has been a good run (remote work), and I am eligible to retire, so I'll go out in June.

This new 'Fork in the Road" email (which I've yet to receive) actually makes it easier...it allows those who accept to continue to remote work until the resignation date of Sept 30.

I do have co-workers who were granted permission to remote work during and after COVID, and moved out of state (to Utah, Missouri, Georgia, Arizona--in all cases, they had to accept the lower salary for approval to be granted)..only one of those is eligible to retire. I expect one to be granted a medical exception.

Several years ago I was shopping at Costco and had gone at an inopportune time---on a weekend near a holiday when the food sample tables were set up and going.

The carts are pretty high anyway, and I am short, so sometimes hard to see around and over. Had a bunch of bulky stuff in the cart. Store was crowded.

I was nearing the end of the aisle, and there was a food sample table set up on my left side. I was going to the right. Big crowd around the table, carts in the way, but not to the right.

So I turn my cart to the right, and bash into a stroller that I could not see because---everything was crowded. Mom had left her toddler there unattended while she went for samples.

She came running up to me, yelling at me "HEY! LOOK OUT! YOU ALMOST HURT MY KID!"

I apologized, saying I hadn't seen him, parked right around the corner when I turned.

She put her hand up dismissively and yelled "NO! DON'T APOLOGIZE!" (she was asian, so it was really "APOROGIZE").

I was annoyed anyway--at myself for stupidly going during peak hours on a weekend, at the stupid people blocking the aisles--her yelling at me and then dismissing my apology set me off.

I yelled back at her, "NEXT TIME, DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE AND LEAVE YOUR KID ALONE IN A STOLLER WHERE PEOPLE PUSHING CARTS CAN'T SEE HIM!"

Area around me went silent, she looked a little shocked, and I stalked off. :)

Everytime I go back into that Costco and down the same aisle, I laugh.

I was just about to ask—who should I watch? I haven’t watched network news since NOVEMBER 2020.

I am retiring next year at 62. 35 years as a Navy civilian.
My husband retired from the Navy (early out/retirement in 1998). He then retired as a Navy civilian last December. He is 65 and taking SS. I will be taking it at 62.

The person on X who posted initially about this states his "source" in DC pointed the ABC employee to him (the X poster). States he has seen the unredacted document, which was written before the debate and "notarized" before the debate. X poster is waiting for the ABC employee's lawyer to redact names and other identifying info from the document and send it back. X poster had to sign an NDA with the attorney of the whistleblower. I swear by it, too. In 2018, I had found one called Eagle Rare (made by the same distillery as Buffalo Trace). It was a bit pricey, almost 50.00 per bottle.

In mid 2020, it was hard to come by--my local Bevmo was always sold out. I would find it sometimes at Vons, but the price had gone up to about 70.00

But then I found the Buffalo Trace, and that is my go-to. Can usually get it at Bevmo (or Walmart) for under 30.00.

Same for my daughter. She got into nursing school at a private college here in California. We told her we would co-sign for a loan (she received a partial scholarship) but she needed to understand she was responsible for paying. I encouraged her to look into ROTC and try to obtain a scholarhsip, but she wasn't interested.

When her first semester there was about to end, she told me she was going to finish the year, move back home, finish her nursing pre-req classes at the local JC, then transfer to a state school. She told me how stupid she felt after realizing HOW MUCH her loan would end up being after 4 years (even though we told her, repeatedly).

So in the middle of her second semester, I asked her if she had started to make plans, as the local jc was starting to do registration for the following school year. This is when she told me she had a meeting with the ROTC cadre. Apparently she realized it was a good idea to try for a scholarship because one of her friends there had one. :) Long story short, she ended up with a 3 year scholarship, graduated and commissioned in 2020, and is finishing up her four year commitment. And, she's paid off the loan from her first year, so she will not have that debt to worry about.

Re: Gunsmoke. I remember watching it on Sunday nights with my dad. This was post-Chester, and in-color. A couple years ago, I was flipping through the tv and came across INSP (I think) channel, with Gunsmoke in black and white. It had just started showing from the beginning, Season 1, Episode 1.

I am now more of a fan of the black and white seasons, and won't watch if my husband puts on the later years, in color. The color is just too garish...

I remember my brother had the soundtrack! I think he took us (me/my sister) to see it at a drive -in in Placerville, CA. Agree that it is the worst of his.
