We used to have neighborhood gatherings, one couple always brought a six pack of beer, drank at least three times that amount, and no food. As soon as the beer was gone, they’d leave. One time, in advance, I told everyone else not to bring any beer , made sure to drink two of theirs, and then bought a case, after they departed. Later on, I was told that they were highly insulted ;)

Tree lighting ceremony tonight in our little city. Crowd was not nearly as overwhelming, and the only Spanish I heard was when they played Feliz Navidad. Gradually, we are.getting our country back.

Social media in our city was reporting a few catalytic convertor thefts, a week. City installed those about a year ago. Don’t recall the last time I have heard of a cat being stolen. Not really a fan of the cameras, but . . .

I have read elsewhere that this guy’s apartment barely had any furniture. But he had access to a car that was fit enough to drive across the continent. Hmmm....

Why couldn’t the cops have just shot the weapon out of his hand ? Just hit his arm ? Barnaby Jones was able to do it at the end of every episode ! \s

Not sure if it is still in business, but there was a coffee chain in Santa Barbara, called “Green Star” and of course, they preached environmental sustainability. The logo reminded me of the ones I saw in Moscow, and Leningrad, on the hats of the security men, when I was on a class trip, in the 70s. Curious, I dug in to the history of the company. Sure enough, they were formerly known as “Red Star”.

I worked with a guy that was half Mexican, had a lot of medical issues. Once a month he went to Tijuana for his meds. Told me what a mess the border was ( 2022 ) and one weekend he took pics of an opening in the fence. Looked like the line I was in to get into the LA Colosseum when I saw The Rolling Stones. That was just ONE day.

Egyptian limo driver made pals with an Egyptian Officer who was leading his men on a training course at Edwards AFB. Called the guy constantly, took him out on the weekends, got to know his every movement. When the Egyptian Airmen flew back home, they were on the flight that augured into the ocean, in this story. The limo driver did work for my ex wife’s company, in Irvine, and on the July 4th, after Sep. 11th, he went to the El Al counter at LAX, and murdered a few people, before being shot to death, himself. These two terrorist acts did not get much press attention, as such, but the vast Middle Eastern.Community in Irvine spread the word.

Flew into Vegas in 1987, to visit a pal. He couldn’t pick me up until he got off work at 5pm. During the interim period, I returned luggage carts, for the quarter reward that was dispensed. When I got to about $3.00, went back inside and played video poker, and won $75. By the time I left town, three days later, I had about $150 more in my wallet, than I arrived with,and the flight was $29 each way, from LAX. Only time I ever made a profit, in that town. Gave it all back, subsequently.

That is how I remember it, too. Compare that to a decade earlier, when Isaiah Thomas made a joke about Larry Bird getting special treatment for being white. Said it on a Thursday, I believe, and the press lit him up. The following Sunday Bird was was on CBS, telling people to lighten up, it was a joke. Being an Enemy Celtic, I was no Bird fan, but I applauded him, that day. Like you, I never thought much of Woods,at that point, either.

Used FedEx since 1981. Told people if my child was sick, and I had to send medecine overnight, I would use FedEx, hands down. Now ? I see exactly what this article describes. Never saw a company go down hill, so far, so fast. Sad.

Target store one block from me. Total spit show. One guy is famous for saying “We’re out of stock” no matter what I ask for, and never even bothers to look. Kids from the local Jr. High run riot, after 3pm, no one does a thing to stop them.

Last time I was in there, got the run around, looking for a toilet paper dispenser. Ordered one from Amazon, on my smart phone, as I walked out in disgust. I was in the back of the store, and received an EMail confirmation before I got out the door. It arrived the next morning. Do not love Jeff Bezos, or Amazon, but it is like shopping on two different planets.
