BISMARCK, N.D. — A protest of a four-state, $3.8 billion oil pipeline turned violent after tribal officials say construction crews destroyed American Indian burial and cultural sites on private land in southern North Dakota. Morton County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Donnell Preskey said four private security guards and two guard dogs were injured after several hundred protesters confronted construction crews Saturday afternoon at the site just outside the Standing Rock Sioux reservation. One of the security officers was taken to a Bismarck hospital for undisclosed injuries. The two guard dogs were taken to a Bismarck veterinary clinic, Preskey said.

Dakota Access Pipeline, LLC has awarded Michels Pipeline Construction, a Division of Michels Corporation, and Precision Pipeline, LLC construction contracts for multiple segments along the 1,134-mile Dakota Access Pipeline. Once completed, the project will transport light sweet crude oil from the Bakken and Three Forks production areas in North Dakota to Patoka, IL where shippers will be able to access multiple markets, including Midwest, East Coast and Gulf Coast regions. This time of the year, it’s not uncommon to spot deer in Rochester, New York. But hospital workers received a surprise Monday afternoon when one limped into the emergency room, apparently severely injured from a car accident. Officials say the deer managed to walk through the doors of Strong Memorial Hospital and make it about 20 feet down a hallway before being corralled by staff members.

More than 300 Chicago-area jobs will be lost when electronics retailer TigerDirect closes all but three of its 34 stores, including four Chicago-area locations and a distribution center. About 40 employees at each location will be cut, a spokeswoman said. Stores in Orland Park, Hoffman Estates, Naperville and Vernon Hills are among those closing. According to the latest Illinois Warn report, layoffs will occur at the retail locations May 9. A distribution center adjacent to the Naperville store will also be shuttered, with 172 workers scheduled to be laid off June 8.

Officials in Montana say they have detected traces of oil in the water supply of the town of Glendive, days after up to 50,000 gallons of oil spilled from a break in a pipeline along the Yellowstone River.
