KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Officials with Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge said there were no injuries nor any indication of a release of radioactivity after a fire involving uranium occurred early Wednesday. According to a release from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration, the fire occurred at 9:14 a.m. Steven Wyatt with NNSA said that there was a hood fire in Building 9212, a uranium procession facility. The building and some nearby areas were evacuated. Tony Boser, a technical adviser, said that the fire was in a processing area and it was contained to that...

Holly O’Neil, associate professor of chemistry and interim assistant dean of the College of Arts and Science, is under fire after being accused of practicing cultural appropriation Thursday, Oct. 27. Cultural appropriation is defined as “the act of taking or using things from a culture that is not your own, especially without showing that you understand or respect this culture,” according to the Cambridge Dictionary. During the English Department’s fourth annual Halloween party, O’Neil went dressed as pop star Michael Jackson. She performed a dance to Michael Jackson’s song, “Thriller.” A video of the performance was posted onto Facebook, then...

Washburn University removed the statues of Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson from their campus saying that they didn't want those statues to be an embarrassment to alummi. On 8/21/2020, they quietly cancelled a black lives matter rally that was to be held in their stadium. Their excuse was coronavirus. They've just announced the rescheduling of the event to 10/02/2020. I've contacted the University but they need to hear from many more people, so I'm spreading the news far and wide in hopes that an avalanche of emails may cause them to rethink this poor decision.https://washburn.edu/about/leadership/executive-staff.html

What's up with Topeka, Kansas? First we have our local Goodyear plant making national news with their "diversity training" program. By now you've all seen the slide saying black lives matter good, all lives matter bad. Well, tonight the local University is holding a BLM rally to be streamed on youtube. I wonder what kind of insanity will be spewed from the speakers at this event?

Kansas Agriculture Secretary Dale Rodman gets an earful from farmers and ranchers struggling to fill job vacancies. It is an economic calling, he said, worthy of thinking outside of the box. The cry of desperation from large dairies and feedlots is that loud. "You've got to listen to your customers," said Rodman, a veteran corporate agriculture executive comfortable wearing a cowboy hat in the Statehouse. He has traveled as secretary to the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico in an attempt to recruit people interested in agriculture careers in Kansas. That shows promise, but the payoff would be slow. He also...

Police are investigating an injured Kansas Army National Guardsman’s reports that he has been the victim of a beating and repeated vandalism involving burned flags in recent days. The 23-year-old soldier, Marion G. Coleman III, says he awoke Wednesday morning and found someone had "egged" his apartment at Cedarwood Apartments in the 2400 block of Ousdahl Road and had left four burned flags outside. Three of the flags were small cloth flags on sticks, and the third was a larger flag that had been folded into a triangle, he said. Coleman said he didn’t report the incident to police until...

While some in the nation declare Monday a "Day Without Immigrants," at least one local activist has different advice: Go to work, go to school and rally Monday night. "We want kids to get educated. We want workers to work," Nancy Ochoa said. "That's why they came here." Ochoa, who organized a rally this month that drew more than 1,000 people to the south steps of the Capitol, said the event planned from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Capitol will be a "motivational public rally" focused on educating people about immigration issues. read more

Comments: This posting will show the hypocrisy at Penn State University. In 2003 I wrote several columns in the Daily Collegian from a conservative viewpoint. Some examples: "Say yes to affirmative action ... in sports" (Feb 4 http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archive/2003/02/02-04-03tdc/02-04-03dops-column-01.asp) which gave a ridiculous defense of affirmative action in sports to show how silly affirmative action was in academics; "Definition of 'homophobia' has become too inclusive" (Feb. 25, http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archive/2003/02/02-25-03tdc/02-25-03dops-column-02.asp) stated that liberals should tolerate Christian and conservative opinions about homosexuality and that the term "homophobe" had gotten overused; "Conservatives are the group in the closet" (April 8,2003, http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archive/2003/04/04-08-03tdc/04-08-03dops-column-01.asp) was my response to...

Just a thought, Alec Baldwin has put his guestbook back up. Some folks are there posting various things to mess with Alec (of which I whole-heartedly approve provided it is funny and entertaining). You have to join the site to post anything. What if we took over the bulletin board and made it a conservative discussion forum. No posts directed to Alec, just another place to discuss issue from a conservative perspective. He provides the bandwidth and we fill it with intelligent conservative discussion. What do ya say?
