  • ACLJ & Key Members Of Congress Urge Armed Services Appeals Court To Hear Religious Liberty Case

We are fighting back. Today, the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) asked the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces to grant review in a major religious liberty case, United States v. Sterling. In Lance Corporal Monifa Sterling’s case, the United States Navy-Marine Corps Court of Criminal Appeals held that the Marines could order Sterling to remove a Bible verse that she had posted in her work station. Sterling, a devout Christian, posted Isaiah 54:17 (“no weapon formed against you shall prosper”) in three places around her work station. Our amicus brief, filed on behalf of...

Suicides by gun accounted for about six of every 10 firearm deaths in 2010 and just over half of all suicides, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Since the CDC began publishing data in 1981, gun suicides have outnumbered gun homicides. But as gun homicides have declined sharply in recent years, suicides have become a greater share of all firearm deaths: the 61% share in 2010 was the highest on record. That year there were 19,392 suicides by firearm compared to 11,078 homicides by gun (35% of all firearm deaths). The rest were accidents, police...

Israel's largest daily newspaper Yediot Aharonot has a photo of US President Barack Obama published with the comment "From threats to words." In Jerusalem, we are disappointed by Obama's behavior. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued veiled criticism of the White House: "If we do not help ourselves, no one will." According to Netanyahu, the world needs to see: "Anyone who uses weapons of mass destruction, has to pay the price." If Syria used chemical weapons against its own people, there is no doubt it would do so against Israel. Therefore, America's reluctance to act now is being heavily criticized...
  • VIRGINIA GUN CRIME DROPS AGAIN AS FIREARM SALES SOAR

    Richmond Times Dispatch ^ | 8/5/13 | MARK BOWES
Gun-related violent crime continues to drop in Virginia as the sales of firearms continue to soar, a pattern that one local criminologist finds interesting “given the current rhetoric about strengthening gun laws.” Major gun crime collectively dropped for a fourth consecutive year statewide, while firearms sales climbed to a new record in 2012 with 490,119 guns purchased in 444,844 transactions — a 16 percent rise over 2011, according to federally licensed gun dealer sales estimates obtained by the Richmond Times-Dispatch. The proliferation of guns occurred as the total number of major reported crimes committed with all types of firearms in...

Recently, the National Association for Gun Rights was the first to break the incredible story of the suspension of a man's Second Amendment rights in Shreveport, Louisiana. At the time, no other gun rights organization bothered to expose this violation of Second Amendment freedoms. But when we tracked down the victim, Robert Baillio, for an interview, we couldn't believe what we heard, and we immediately sent out a nationwide alert. The story went viral overnight. If this tale of government abuse moves you, send it to a friend or family member to get the word out. Welcome to Shreveport: Your...
  • Record-Low Support Banning Handguns in U.S.

    11/07/2011 3:40:58 PM PST · by epow · 27 replies
According to Gallup’s annual Crime Poll, conducted earlier this month, a record-low 26 percent of Americans favor a ban on the possession of handguns in the United States. When Gallup first asked Americans this question some 50 years ago, 60 percent favored banning handguns; however, since 1975, the majority of Americans have opposed such a measure, with opposition as high as 70 percent in recent years. This data follows the release last month of FBI statistics that show for the fourth straight year sales of firearms have increased while crime has continued to decrease. The Gallup poll also found that...

Any of Florida's parks, city halls and libraries — once gun-free zones — will soon be forced to allow firearms under a state-led effort to curtail gun restrictions imposed by local governments. Facts: GUN ORDINANCES UP FOR REPEAL City of Sarasota Law allowing city manager to suspend firearm sales during emergencies Sarasota County Laws prohibiting hunting from roads and bridges, allowing the suspension of firearm sales during a riot, requiring pawn shops to keep records of firearms Manatee County Laws requiring gun ranges to ensure stray bullets stay within their property, prohibiting discharge of firearms on unpaved public roads and...

A Christian ministry's decision to expose as "false teachers" several celebrity ministers it believes are corrupting biblical teachings has prompted a rift, with Jack Van Impe Ministries dropping plans to work in the future with Trinity Broadcasting Network, where it has broadcast for more than two decades. "I Will Not Be Silenced! I will not allow anyone to tell me what I can and cannot preach," Van Impe said in a statement when TBN would not allow his program to air. "When I see heretical teaching leading to apostasy, I will speak out," he said. "The Bible says 'All scripture...

The Big Clubs in Mexico’s Drug War Aren’t Slipping Through the Gun-Show Loophole Another series of leaked State Department cables made public this week by WikiLeaks lend credence to investigative reports on gun trafficking and the drug war published by Narco News as far back as 2009. The big battles in the drug war in Mexico are “not being fought with Saturday night specials, hobby rifles and hunting shotguns,” Narco News reported in March 2009, against the grain, at a time when the mainstream media was pushing a narrative that assigned the blame for the rising tide of weapons flowing...
  • Report Shatters Myth of Mexico’s Gun Supply

A new report calls “The 90 Percent Myth,” which refers to the number of illegal guns in Mexico coming from the United States, “more political rhetoric than empirical fact.” We couldn’t agree more. NSSF has been trying to stamp out “The 90 Percent Myth” ever since ATF misstated the number in testimony at a congressional hearing in 2009. A prompt clarification issued by ATF couldn’t put the proverbial genie back in the bottle. Unfortunately, “The 90 Percent Myth” has been widely promoted by Mexican officials and wrongly cited in U.S. news stories, although a Fox News study of the “90%...

New findings on how offenders train with, carry and deploy the weapons they use to attack police officers have emerged in a just-published, 5-year study by the FBI. Among other things, the data reveal that most would-be cop killers: * show signs of being armed that officers miss; * have more experience using deadly force in “street combat” than their intended victims; * practice with firearms more often and shoot more accurately; * have no hesitation whatsoever about pulling the trigger. "If you hesitate," one told the study’s researchers, "you’re dead. You have the instinct or you don’t. If you...

I have never witnessed such a blatant, systematic attempt to undermine the Catholic Church as the one I am writing about today. The latest Catholyc astroturf group “Catholics for Equality” (which I exposed a couple months ago) already had me deeply concerned when they introduced a “Report Anti-Equality Activity!” section on their webpage. But now they have taken things to a whole different level. Aniello Alioto, one of their founding members, explains their group’s strategic plan to undermine the Church – yes, even in the pews of your parish (emphasis mine):

You’ve seen them everywhere: pink ribbons and wristbands to raise awareness about breast-cancer prevention. But before you donate, find out where the money is going. Susan G. Komen for the Cure, formerly known as the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, is a big promoter of the pink ribbon campaign. It raises money for breast cancer detection and research, and it awards grants to many worthwhile programs. But as the Life Issues Institute points out, “In a counterproductive twist, Komen is also funding a group that actually promotes a possible cause of breast cancer.” The cause? Abortion. The group? Planned...

Since the surge in firearms purchases began in October 2008, if one believes the oft-repeated mantra that "most crime guns are rapidly diverted from retailers to the street via straw purchasers," then there should have been a surge in homicides and other violent crime. There was not. In fact, preliminary figures released by the FBI today show that all forms of violent crime were down in 2009 from 2008, with homicides showing the greatest percentage decline (7.2 percent). These declines in crime came during a year when firearm sales were at historic highs.

On Thursday, Felipe Calderon, the president of Mexico, where prohibitive gun laws prevent good people from having firearms for protection against criminals and governments of dubious legitimacy (historically the norm in Mexico), encouraged Congress to reinstate the federal "assault weapon" ban. With a warning seemingly designed to appeal to those who believe that speaking out against the Obama Administration's policies are one step short of sedition or worse, Calderon said, "[I]f you do not regulate the sale of these weapons in the right way, nothing guarantees that criminals here in the United States with access to the same power of...

When members of the General Assembly decided to pass a bill to repeal Georgia's 140 year old public gathering law on Thursday night, they were confused by the irony of the largest gun rights group in the nation opposing the reform. SB 308 passed the General Assembly late on the last day of the session. The final version removed two provisions that had been in the bill earlier decriminalizing the carry of weapons by licensed persons in churches and on college campuses. Under the final version, these two locations will remain illegal for carry. The surprise came when the nation's...
