Former DeKalb County sheriff was arrested early Friday for the assassination of the man who beat him in the sheriff's election. Sidney Dorsey, 61, and two other men -- former DeKalb deputy Melvin D. Walker and David Ramsey -- were charged with the murder of Sheriff-elect Derwin Brown, who was gunned down in front of his south DeKalb home three days before he was to have been sworn in as sheriff. "We've been standing here and telling you we would get to the bottom of this case," DeKalb Police Chief Eddie Moody said at a 4:30 a.m. news conference. "There ...

Advice to Give Children About Tragedy Last Updated: 4:56 p.m., 09/11/01 Clayton County schools sent letters home with children on Tuesday. The documents offered advice to parents and teachers about how to explain a tragedy to children. The advice suggested that the first thing adults must do when something unfortunate happens is to accept their own feelings. Print-outs sent home with children in Clayton County schools told parents that it was all right to feel lousy about the devastation that struck in Washington, D.C., New York City and Pennsylvania. More than 2,100 got hurt and an untold number of people ...
  • QUESTION: Paul Harvey's "The Rest of the Story" about Pearl Harbor

    05/29/2001 12:17:37 PM PDT · by charphar · 2+ views
Quick question: Was it here on FR that someone posted the Paul Harvey "Rest of the Story" about the plans to invade Pearl Harbor? You know, the one about the Japanese naval academy exam with the question "How would you attack Pearl Harbor?" I'm trying to find it, thought I saw it here. HELP! Thanks ahead of time.

Now I have to sign in/log in every time I come back to FR. Is there something I need to change, some setting or something, that I need to correct? Just wondering.... Thanks ahead of time!
  • Three Presidents. One Lesson.

The past week was dominated by three presidents, the new one, the last one, a past one. It was instructive. The new one continues to move forward, becoming accepted by the country as president. The recount seems if not long ago then just another strange mishap, like Al Gore's makeup in the first debate. George W. Bush is pushing the programs he ran on, doing what he said he'd do. There have been interesting and even unusual appointments, such as John DiIulio, a public intellectual, a writer, to head the office of faith-based initiatives. Normally someone with that résumé would ...

WASHINGTON (BP)--Let us pray, please. Almighty God, the supply and supplier of peace, prudent policy and non-partisanship, we bless Your holy and righteous Name. Thank You, O God, for blessing us with forgiveness, with faith and with favor. Forgive us for choosing pride over purpose. Forgive us for choosing popularity over principles and forgive us for choosing materialism over morals. Deliver us from these and all other evils and cast our sins into Your sea of forgetfulness to be remembered no more. And, Lord, not only do we thank You for our forgiveness, we thank You for faith -- faith ...
  • Miller joins U.S. Senate, praises his predecessor

Washington --- Pledging to serve with the same bipartisan spirit as his predecessor, former Georgia Gov. Zell Miller ascended Thursday to a Senate seat he had first pursued 20 years ago, nearly wrecking his political career. Miller, a 68-year-old Democrat, becomes the 62nd senator from Georgia. He succeeds Paul Coverdell, a leading light of the Republican Party, who died in office July 18 after a massive stroke. Although the day belonged to Miller, Coverdell's absence hung heavy in the Senate chamber. Colleagues continued their outpouring of sorrow in speeches before the swearing-in, and Miller used his brief remarks to pay ...
