Despite the appearance created by this Senate approval the Fed remains a private entity, not subject to the legislature or executve branch.
What? I thought Federal Express was part of the government too! LOL. It is interesting that the "private" nature of the Federal Reserve is not well-known.
Politics ain't bean bag ;-) Honest criticism and pressure is nothing for President Bush or the Republican Party to be afraid of. They'll handle the criticism as they see fit, and the chips will fall where they do.

Senator Bunning gave an opposition speech just before the voice vote was taken.
The chamber sounded and appeared nearly empty (C-SPAN2 doesn't give a view that permits definite conclusions) for the voice vote. I would guess that fewer than 20 Senators were there at the time the vote was recorded as passing.
I admit it was a bit of a guess, but not a wild guess. Not as wild as "there will be a successful filibuster and the Alito nomination will be sent back to the President."
I'm also happy that "stealth as a tactic" is losing sway.

Ha! The title now seems to be: La. Turned Down Feds Help, Documents Show
Son of a gun! That it does.
I almost reposted the article.
Proabably worth reposting under the new title - you might cross-reference back to this one just for the fact that AP changed the headline, but the subject will get more discussion and visiblity if reposted under its current title.
Technically it'll be a duplicate, but IMO, a harmless one.
The Bernanke vote will be a voice vote early this afternoon.
I further ask unanimous consent that the Senate stand in recess from 12:30 to 2:15 p.m. to accommodate the weekly party luncheons, and that Senator Bunning be recognized at 2:15 for his 30 minutes of debate on the Bernanke nomination.
After that, the vote on the nomination, and elevation to chair of the Federal Reserve.
Officially announced. 58-42. Senate moves on the nomination of Bernacke to Federal Reserve Chair. LOL - Quorum call. Just gives time to seetle the chamber down. THey're all there. Pretty funny to suggest "absence of a quorum."
