Someone in the media at the beginning of the year (Evan Thomas of Newsweek I thinkn?) said that the the MSM would be heavily for Kerry all year and that would count for probably 11-12 points in the polls/vote.

Good memory. It was Evan Thomas. His off the cuff comment was that the media bias would be good for 15 points in the polls. The media knows its power, and sees that power slipping.

Lets talk a little media bias here. The media, I think, wants Kerry to win. And I think theyre going to portray Kerry and Edwards Im talking about the establishment media, not Fox but theyre going to portray Kerry and Edwards as being young and dynamic and optimistic and all. Theres going to be this glow about them that some, is going to be worth, collectively, the two of them, thats going to be worth maybe 15 points. These polls are self-fulfilling in a sense.

That is a typical media trick. Prominently report and push a rumor (as a rumor -- "some people are saying that ..."), poll on the rumor, then report (as if it's a fact that exists outside of this "push") that most people think 'the rumor' is true.

Parallel case in point. Some high school kids in Wisconsin did a study regarding the rate of violent crime (number of victims per 100,000 population), the rate of prominent stories about individual violent crimes, and public perception of the crime rate. They found a correlation between the rate of reporting and public perception. The public thought the crime rate was up when crime was reported more, even while the crime rate was in fact down. Perception trumps reality every time.

Another case, "the summer of the shark attacks."

If you've followed the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, you know that many of their points aren't "he said, she said" but are actually Kerry circa 1969 v. Kerry circa 2004. Kerry's story changed/changes in a material way.

The media has the same problem with consistency. But that is to be expected, because the media is simply an unaffiliated organ of the Democrat/Socialist party.

C'mon, it is a preprinted form with the Kerry info dropped in by computer. No different from my high school grades mailing from the early 70's

I hadn't given this document, a cover letter for an Honorable Discharge Certificate, a second glance until today. It appears to be a mostly preprinted form in proportional font (NAVPERS 1926/2 (Rev 3-77) Part 4), with monospaced personal information dropped in, as you say. But check this document of 1986 (years later from the cover letter for the Honorable Discharge Certificate) ...

That letter is all monospaced. I'd like to see a copy of an actual NAVPERS 1926/2 (Rev 3-77). I was able to find some forms, none of them had that appearance.

You are correct. Don't know what made me associate the movie "Sleuth" with Mr. Reeve. Old age maybe <g>

Sorry to hear this. Was often prompted to think of Mr. Reeve, by the media harping on the subject of embryonic stem cell research. I felt badly for him when he broke his neck.

He turned in a good performance in "Sleuth," one of the longest movies I ever sat through in a theatre!

I hope he is cavorting with his horses with God today. Prayers for his family.

Check out who the owner is as well. Make sure the owning company gets a copy of your complaint.

For example, the company that owns WGME (a CBS affiliate in southern Maine) is owned by Sinclair. When I complained about CBS, and explained why I would tune in football via radio before tuning in WGME, the owner found out why too.

Good for Sinclair. I hammered one of their CBS affiliated stations, and made sure to send a copy to the owner, Sinclair.

I just double checked my comment on the leatherman being issued to the Army troops and saw I was wrong. It is a Gerber product that is being issued.

So maybe Mr. Leatherman's vote is a case of sour grapes.

A few weeks back, Moveon made a set of ads, one featuring a US serviceman, recently returned from duty in Iraq, who was voting for Kerry. I did some research into this fellow. He was a translator, and was held over in Iraq for, IIRC, about 6 months. He and 5 other translators who were traveling back stateside together. THis group was "at the airport" when orders came down to stay.

The father of one of the servicemen in the group (not the one featured in the Moveon ad) raised a ruckus with his congress-critter and the media over this. Anyway, long story short, there are some sour grapes involves with the serviceman featured in the Moveon ad; and I would not be surprized if sour grapes (i.e., bid but didn't get the DOD contract) with Mr. Leatherman.

I wish there was a way to get a range of pages in one go, but AFAIK, the frwebgate.access.gpo.gov site doesn't have a facility for that. <sigh>

You have to imagine Zell's delivery when reading. It was great to watch.

Yes he did. Saddam was payig Palestinian suicide bombers -- US supports establishment of a Palestinian state next to Israel, but does not trust Arafat to be the interlocutor.

Cheny addressed the question more directly than Edwards did.

Quite predictable, actually. If CBS waits long enough, public memory will fade.

Walter is full of it. The internet is not "on the air." And, FWIW, libel and slander law works just fine for people who "publish" on the internet. Might be tough, in some cases, to find out who they are, but that [difficulty] holds true for anonymous leafleting as well.
