lol...I guess we’ll just let it go at that. If it were up to me, Ron Paul or Huckabee would be the next president. But, I’ll have to deal with the choices we have, as do we all.

I checked out your link and it is on the verge of hate-mongering, imho (I’m not saying that describes you personally).

Obama’s father was born in Kenya, a Muslim by birth, but didn’t really practice it. When he went back to Kenya as a lawyer he was ostracized for not going along with the corrupt government...not being able to get work because of his democratic beliefs, perhaps even murdered because of it. Barack only met him twice.

His mother and grandparents raised him for the most part, except for a short time while he was a kid and his mother remarried and lived in Indonesia. In his book, he says of the Muslim faith that it was “a faith I didn’t possess”. His mother and grandparents are Christians and so is he.

If you take the time to learn ‘both sides of the story’ you’ll be better equipped to make your own conclusions.

I think all of this Muslim stuff is coming from the Hillary camp originally, jmo. She will do anything to win.

I haven’t read any books on Stalin, but I learned about him him classes I’ve taken. Obama isn’t interested in the government taking over any industries/businesses. As a matter of fact, his work has included helping local people organize to fight government bureaucracies and he is fighting for more transparency in government. The comparison is ridiculous. Now Hillary, she is a socialist in my best estimation and would do everything behind closed doors...the comparison may make more sense with her.

I really disagree with that, I am reading his first book, “Memories for My Father”...in it he explains how he was exposed to some Black Panther types while working as a community organizer and he did not like what they stood for at all.

You know, years ago I used to do a lot of research type stuff on the FR and now I guess it has become a habit of mine when I want information. The only way to really get knowledge about any of the candidates is to find out for yourself. Look up the Obama website and the McCain website. Read their books, research what they have done or haven’t done.

When you suggest things like “Barack is still behind Comrade Stalin” you should really have links and/or be able to state what reliable resources have led you to be comfortable making that type of remark...that’s all I’m saying.

I think that if many of you would go to Obama’s website and read where he stands on the issues instead of making presumptions, you would see you have more in common with what he wants to do than you’d thought.

Go ahead, I dare ya. I’m voting for him in Nov., he’d make a better president than McCain.

Guess who wants to do these things:

Lower taxes for the low and middle class, with many tax breaks; having those seniors earning under 50,000 a year not pay taxes on social security; only giving corporate tax breaks to businesses which employ people in the USA

Stop earmark programs and make congress responsible for their spending...wanting to make a website where every legislator would have earmarks they want, what they voted for, and etc, in a searchable database for the public to read

Wants a strong military, making sure soldiers have what they need to go into battle and making sure health care facilities are available to them; wants to make sure people have access to affordable health care plans (people would choose own plans and pay premiums) like members of congress have, but would not mandate people have it or force it upon them

Wants to give people a chance to go to college via grants if they promise to dedicate a certain amount of time to community service projects; likes “no child left behind”, but wants to give teachers more local control so they don’t have to ‘teach to the test’

    Is young with energy

    The answer?
    Barack Obama

    Now guess who wants this:

The possibility of staying in Iraq for another 100 years

Giving corporations an increase in their tax breaks, regardless of whether they stay in the USA or not; in the meantime he had originally voted against tax breaks for the poor and middle class, saying people shouldn't’t get a break when the country is at war

He thinks one solution to solving the social security problem is to raise the age one can receive benefits

He wants to ‘solve’ the health care crisis by letting people set up medical savings accounts (if they have no money, how are they to do this?); voted to make sure there was no competition allowed in the Medicaid bill

    Has usurped the 1st Amendment

    Is old and tired

    The answer?
    John McCain

I and my family went to the Beatlejuice concert last week. All of the guys in the band stayed after the concert to talk to their fans and sign autographs. Brian Delp was so nice...he was so down to earth and friendly. He talked to my son and encouraged him to keep playing his bass. We are just all in shock.

Why would you flag other people to this post? lol Hey, you are the one who asked/rudely commented on my screen name, I was merely answering your query. My explanation of WHEN I joined FR was relevant to why I chose "Born in a Rage".

I am advocating for the needs of children, which were regarded as essential by our Founders -- that children would be raised properly in order to perpetuate a free republic.

That's a bunch of self-righteous malarkey. How do you know...maybe a single woman who has IVF will get married a couple of years later and create your idea of an 'ideal' family. She must have money because the procedure is expensive! Who are you to say she wouldn't raise the child "properly"? There are plenty of kids from two parent homes who have nobody who gives a crap about them, and they weren't even wanted in the first place! Your thesis, generalizations, and statistics forget about one major fact...people are INDIVIDUALS, not cookie-cutter fodder for sociology textbooks. It is INDIVIDUALS who make this a free republic.

Like I said to someone else, the woman is probably not poor, so the kid has a future ahead of him/her. Who is to say that a woman who has had a child by IVF won't get married a couple of years later? And any single woman who has sex and then gets pregnant could be said to 'deliberately' conceive...there's always a chance of getting pregnant, but those people didn't plan it. Also, some people have great conditions in their lives when the woman gets pregnant, but then they divorce a few years later, or their financial situation changes, anything could happen.

If the woman can afford to get IVF, then I doubt she is poor.

The whole thing is silly if you ask me.

Maybe people who are only children do 'better' than people who come from a family of ten children...should we try to stop people from having so many kids?

Maybe people who have extended family around them (aunts, uncles, grandparents) do 'better' than people who have no extended family around...should we tell people not to move away from their extended families?

Maybe people who come from mixed marriages don't do as well as those who come from unmixed marriages...should we tell people who to love?

Maybe people who grow up in poverty don't do as well as people who are born into wealthy families...should we now tell poor people that they shouldn't have any children?

I'm no expert, but from what I understand, adoption is extremely costly and can take years and years. I don't think it is a realistic option for everyone. It is definitely not an option for a single female. The powers that be should make it easier for people to adopt children.

So, would you rather that a woman sleep around (perhaps on her husband) and get 'fertilized' naturally instead of having IVF? I guess there is a 'moral dilemma' either way, isn't there?

Just because one doesn't come from the "most successful" group according to social scientists, it doesn't mean they shouldn't have been conceived (IVF or whatever).

My screen name? Thanks for asking. I joined FR many years before you did, during the Clinton scandals back in 1998 or so...(my profile says I joined in '99 but it was actually before that because I had to rejoin at one point). My 'name' is the title of a song I wrote and was chosen because of my outrage at the Clinton Administration. Happy?

That may be true statistically, however I know many people who came from two parent homes who ended up very messed up.

I don't agree that kids need parents of both sexes. I grew up without my father around and I'm just fine.

Some children are better off without one of their parents around them...some mothers and/or fathers abuse their kids. I'd rather see one female have a child and raise the baby herself rather than see a mother and father combo who treat their kids badly.

You really shouldn't be passing judgment on this woman. I mean, she could have gotten married to someone she didn't love, had sex with him, get pregnant, and then leave him...taking the baby with her. Would that be any better?

Fishtalk: "I don't know what to say here. How awful to know that someone jerked off into a jar and now here you are. It's just...just not right. The whole process serves further to put fathers onto the sidelines and minimize their need. Thankfully most babies are NOT born this way."

    Biar says:

I'm sorry to say this, but if you think most of us were conceived by two people hopelessly in love, gazing into each other's eyes while speaking of the moonlight and fate...you're a hopeless romantic and your head is in the clouds.

I don't care who you are in this life, there is always something to complain about with your parents. This girl should be glad she is alive and stop blaming her suicidal thoughts on her mother. If she thinks her mother is "selfish", I'm sure there are lots of other people who have two parents at home who could say the same thing about their mothers. It's called Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
