I despise them as well but I really believe mocking and laughing at them freaks them out far more than allowing them to know you actually place any worth in their nonsensical beliefs.

I live in a retirement community in SC. THe mail is kept at a central location and the homeowners must go there to pick up. There is a sign on the door which says “Masks Required”

When I enter the bldg, like you I put on my mask and remove it immediately upon leaving because like you I never wear a mask unless forced to do so and never outside. Anyway earlier this week as I approached our mail room I had my hand in my jacket pocket ready to extract and put on my mask when this guy coming the other way (wearing a mask” says, “Where is your mask”? I became immediately annoyed since I wasn’t inside the mail room and instead of saying that to the guy I asked him if he was a mask Nazi. He became upset and accused me have having no respect fot others. I just smiled and went on to get my mail.

Today I went to pick up my mail and didn’t I run into the same jerk again? This time he asked again if I forgot my mask. Instead of again calling him a mask Nazi I stood straight, extended my arm in a Nazi salute and said “Jawohl”

The jerk was speechless and stood there with his mouth open.I got my mail and with a smile on my face went home. I’m still smiling.

Although the minimum wage can be set by other than market forces, in the end it is the market which will decide the success or failure of an arbitrary adjustment of wages. Here is an example. I used to own a retail business. My business allowed for X amount for salary expenses (after mine) Any increases in the amount allotted for salary can only come from either an increase in profit or a reduction in my salary (not happening). If I am forced to increase the salary of my entry level employees then that $ must come from the current employee allocation for salary. This means I can either lay off help or shorten hours. The likelihood is I will lay off all minimum wage employees I have and hire some more experienced or at least better educated than I had. By increasing the wages paid the pool of perspective employees will also increase. The end result is the very people who the minimum wage (entry level wage) is supposed to help will instead be shut out of the workplace by better qualified/educated job seekers. The markets will always determine the price of anything subject to the laws of supply/demand. Wages are included in this equation.

Nothing stops it and it will certainly happen as it has happened before. In addition to many, many layoffs which the increase in the min. wage will cause there will be a whole lot of unhappy workers who after working hard to elevate their wages see untrained and unproven new hires earning exactly what they are. These employees will want more in wages and if they don’t get it they will begin looking for another job.

If the employer wants to keep the worker he will either pay him more and if cannot afford that he will simply lay off another worker so he can afford it.

In the end wages are always determined by the market and are a function of supply and demand.
