  • Chemo, Radiation & Coronavirus

First, let me say I am more than pleased in how my chemo and radiation treatments have been going. No nausea at all from the chemo and outside the pain from the arthritis in my shoulders holding my arms over my head for 15 to 20 minutes during radiation, I am not suffering much at all. Oh, I am down in the dumps at times and have fatigue to the max. I am sleeping about 16 hours a day. All in all, the whole experience has been much better than I ever expected and all thanks to you all who...

I went to my radiation and chemo treatments scared to death. Good old Greg Allen drove me there and back and I will give him a gold star for his efforts. I had a lot of pain holding my arms back while in the infernal radiation machine that whirled about me shooting left over parts of the Little Boy bomb at my cancer. Yet the good meds the doc gave me kicked in and the pain did not last very long after I got out the radiation's grip and put my arms down. Then 30 minutes later I was in...

(Posted on Facebook last time and after a good sleep I wanted to say this to all the FReepers who prayed for me.) I went to my radiation and chemo treatments scared to death. I had a lot of pain holding my arms back while in the infernal radiation machine that whirled about me shooting left over parts of the Little Boy bomb at my cancer. • Getting a start time set--

    02/27/2020 4:53:30 AM PST · by Bender2 · 44 replies
Saw a trifecta of doctors the past two days and a plethra of nurses and technician all aiming me to start chemo and radiation treatments next week on Wednesday. First, the good news, Monday last PET Scan, says my oncologist, shows the cancer has not spread very far at all and "highly treatable." So my chemo and radiation treatment should only run 4 or 5 weeks he says. He gave me several new meds including 2 for nausea. However, Carrie, the nurse that will be doing the actual chemo told me that they believed they had mostly got the nausea...
  • Keeping in the loop--

Okay, to keep everyone in the loop and maybe keep me there, too-- Here is what is going on. Tomorrow I go into surgery to have a portal installed for them to be able to inject the chemo drugs into me. As to when that will start, I do not know as yet. Wednesday I go to the Corsicana Cancer Center to get set up for chemo and such I guess. I have been told that my chemo and radiation therapy will be for 6 to 8 weeks and them perhaps followed by more surgery. Monday I go up to...

Thanks to all of y'all for your prayers and support. Your prayers helped a great deal but I am not out of the woods yet. Yesterday the doc did the scoop on me and the cancer has spread, but not very far he says. He took out as much as he felt he could and I will soon be seeing an oncologist for I assume chemo and radiation.
  • Memories of Kirk Douglas

With the death of Kirk Douglas I cannot help but recall the creation of my screenplay I wrote for him and his son Michael.Back in 1978 I was out in Hollywood trying to peddle two of my screenplays and auditioning for any acting jobs I could. One of those auditions was for as a day player on The China Syndrome of which I did not get but did get to read before Michael Douglas as he was the producer-- My agent at the time back in Dallas, called me a week or so after that, saying she had heard that...

  • Joker is the most-nominated film at this year’s Oscars. It shouldn’t win Best Picture.

    01/29/2020 3:32:04 AM PST · by Bender2 · 52 replies
Every year, between five and 10 movies compete for the Oscars’ Best Picture trophy. It’s the most prestigious award that the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences gives out every year, announced right at the end of the ceremony. And there aren’t any set rules about what constitutes a “best” picture. It’s the movie — for better or worse, depending on the year — that Hollywood designates as its standard bearer for the current moment. But it obviously struck a massive nerve with audiences as well as with the industry, which has heaped praise on it beginning with the...
  • The Last Navarroite

The Last Navarroite Navarro County, Texas, has been central to my family. Family names were all over the place: Lee, Hugghins, Eppler, Mayo, Spurrier all sprinkled among the county's towns: Corsicana, Kerens, Chatfield, Barry, Blooming Grove and all parts in between-- Though I, along with my mother move all over tarnation in the 1950s and early 1960s with my father in his construction careen along with those family members who worked for my dad. Yet we always came back to Navarro County to visit and/or recharge. In 1966, mom and dad bought a house in Kerens to stay. As the...

My hometown newspaper, one where I wrote a daily political column for better than a dozen years, had made me hang my head in deep, deep shame-- Their news story this morning as the headline "One and indivisible: Texas marks 174th anniversary of statehood" alongside the flag of Chile as shown below:

Virtual Reality: Manziel taking reps without even hitting the field by Chris O'Leary As he baby steps his way through the offensive nuances of the CFL, Johnny Manziel’s most important work might be taking place in the Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ meeting room. Through the first three days of training camp, Manziel has been using a virtual reality headset that lets him see what Ticats’ starter Jeremiah Masoli has seen in practice to date. “We used them (Monday) afternoon and I thought it was very helpful,” Manziel said. “It’s very high quality and I get to take some of the other guys’...

Timeless recap: Bloodshed and betrayal in an explosive two-part season finale (SPOILER ALERT!) by Devan Coggan After an untimely cancellation and an unexpected resurrection in its freshman season, Timeless is taking no chances this time around. The time travel drama is closing out its stellar second season with a gutsy, guns-blazing finale that completely rewrites the rules — and showcases how much this show has grown. Not only has Timeless ironed out some of its kinks and tightened up its mythology, but it’s also finally leaning into its strengths — particularly its strong cast and time-period-of-the-week structure. -- SNIP --...
  • Kirk or Picard? Jeff Bezos Picks His Favorite 'Star Trek' Captain

Captain Jean-Luc Picard rules. So says Jeff Bezos. The Blue Origin founder apparently sides firmly with Sir Patrick Stewart's portrayal of Picard from "Star Trek: The Next Generation" when picking the best starship captain from the "Star Trek" franchise. Of course, that may be because Bezos hung out with Stewart at a recent event "Kirk or Picard? Picard!" Bezos wrote on Twitter Saturday (March 10)...
