Why do they so despise our military? Why do they never come to its defense?
Because at the end of the day, no matter how socialist their pretensions may be, big media networks are out to make a buck, just like the rest of us. And stories about atrocities shift more copies and attract more viewers than accounts of ordinary soldiers' day-to-day integrity.
Maybe "proud" is not quite the right word. I quite like my skin color, eye color and gender, but I don't see why I should be proud of something that came down to chance.
"People vote for their own kind," he said. "There's nothing wrong with it. It's natural."
To be fair to Ed Koch, I think there's probably an element of truth to his statement. In a Thomas Hobbes-style state of nature, people may well be inclined to vote for "their own kind". But that doesn't mean there's nothing wrong with that attitude. US citizens do not exist in a state of nature. And if I were black, and somebody told me that I did live in such a state, I'm sure I'd find it incredibly insulting and racist.
