WOBURN -- Police acted immediately after receiving a call from Massachusetts Republican Party headquarters on Wednesday about a man wearing a pink mask entering MassGOP offices and accusing staffers of being "fascists" before threatening to "come back with a weapon," among other profanity-laced threats. The individual identified himself as Hugh Samson. MassGOP staff was able to positively identify the man after a cursory internet search yielded news photos of him protesting in November 2020:

TRURO (CBS) – A surfer was attacked and seriously injured by a shark at a Cape Cod beach Wednesday afternoon. The Truro Harbormaster says the man was bitten by a shark at Long Nook Beach. Sources tell WBZ-TV’s Bill Shields the shark bit the surfer’s hip. The man was taken to Wellfleet and then loaded onto a Medflight helicopter to be flown to Tufts Medical Center. The AP is reporting the man is 61 years old.

Michelle DuBois said she got information from a friend in the Latino community, warning that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will be conducting a "raid" in Brockton on Wednesday. A Confederate battle flag was attached Sunday night to a Boston memorial that commemorates one of the first all-black regiments to fight for the union during the Civil War, hanging there for over an hour before a woman removed it. Melissa Carino, 37, of Lowell said she saw the flag hanging from the Robert Gould Shaw and Massachusetts 54th Regiment Memorial across the street from the State House at about 8 p.m. Carino said she left and returned to the location later, angered that it had not been removed.

U.S. Sen. Harry Reid on Thursday called supporters of Bunkerville rancher Cliven Bundy “domestic terrorists” because they defended him against a Bureau of Land Management cattle roundup with guns and put their children in harm’s way. “They’re nothing more than domestic terrorists,” Reid said during an appearance at a Las Vegas Review-Journal “Hashtags & Headlines” event at the Paris. “I repeat: what happened there was domestic terrorism.”

MOSCOW -- A gay Russian protester was detained on Saturday for unfurling a rainbow flag during the Olympic torch relay as it passed through his hometown of Voronezh, 560 miles north of Sochi, where the Games will begin Feb. 7. Photos uploaded by his friends show Pavel Lebedev pulling out the flag and then being detained by Olympic security personnel, who wrestle him to the snow as they wait for police to arrive. Lebedev, reached by The Associated Press on the phone, said he was still in the police station and undergoing questioning.

Cracker Barrel has become the first sponsor to cut bait with "Duck Dynasty" ... but not entirely. The Southern-themed food chain reacted to Phil Robertson's anti-gay comments by removing "selected products which we were concerned might offend some of our guests" from their stores and restaurants. The wife of US Representative John F. Tierney is poised to plead guilty tomorrow to federal tax charges for managing a bank account that her brother allegedly used to deposit millions of dollars in illegal gambling profits he raked in from an offshore sports betting operation in Antigua. Patrice Tierney, 59, who is married to the Salem Democrat, is charged with four counts of aiding and abetting the filing of false tax returns by her brother, Robert Eremian, of St. John’s, Antigua.

Scott Brown urged anyone upset by last night’s historic passage of the $940 billion House health-care overhaul to swarm the Senate with phone calls in a last-ditch effort to block Democratic fixes. PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Rep. Patrick Kennedy says Roman Catholic Bishop Thomas Tobin has barred him from receiving communion because of his support of abortion rights. The Providence Journal reports on its Web site Sunday that Kennedy said in an interview that Tobin issued the order during discussions with the Democratic lawmaker, further escalating a simmering ideological dispute between the two men. Under church rules, Tobin can prevent Kennedy from receiving communion within his diocese, which covers Rhode Island. It’s unclear whether bishops outside Rhode Island will take the same path.
