Had a high school classmate who was politically well connected, a wise guy and was arrested for the third time on July 4 weekend for DUI.First two times his politically connected family got him off with a warning. This time he took a swing at the cops. He was tuned up and thrown into jail. At arraignment he was bruised and the judge told him that at the jail they like to keep the steps clean and they may be a bit wet and slippery. Then he offered him a choice. Either six months in that jail or he was to enlist in the US Marines. Chose the Marines, did not go to college, survived Vietnam and Khe Sanh. Later became a lawyer.
